I'm awaiting my BT Ven. Dread and wondering how I shouldmpimp him out as far as weapons go. (I will use magnets so I can switch, but I am curious as to how I should equip him to make him as badass as possible in close combat. Preferably, id like formhim to have SOME use whne not in cc as well. Suggestion?

I have seen them use in 2 fashion:

The firstone is the suuport fire, with twin-link lascaon and the missile laucher and tank hunter. You will rarely miss and will be able to penetrate fairly consistantly.

the second is using a drop pod and equiping him with multi-melta and heavy flamer under his cc arm. If you do this, keep him far away from any melta units

How does he hold up in cc in your first option? I was originally leaning towards a drop pod option.

If you want a CC BT dread, I would go with the assault cannon, heavy flamer and DCCW. You can stick it in a stormraven for quick deployment purposes.

The Stormraven is the furthest thing from a quick deployment. Even if the Stormraven comes in on Turn2, the Dread can't assault until Turn3 at the earliest. You can take advantage of an assault vehicles unless it's in hover mode and in that case it would only be able to move 6" from the table edge it deployed from. If you deepstrike the Dread while the Raven is zooming, not only get it risk damaging the Dread, but it can't assault that turn. (IIRC)

The fastest way to get a dread in battle in a Turn1 drop pod.

Personally, I never field my BT's without a Ven Dread with Hunter equipped with TL Lascannon and Missile Launcher. 48" is huge and not many armies have the firepower to hurt something that far away consistently. 3 hull points and the ability to force rerolls on penetration hits is fantastic. Why force is into CC? Keep it max range and get reliable high strength shots all game. There are other viable units for CC in the BT codex, but there isn't anything that can fill the shooting-variant Dread's shoes, except more expensive Shooty Terminators with Hunters. Point for point, the Ven Dread is the best shooting option BTs have.

You know, that's a good point. I hadn't really thought of him that way. New to 40k. I'm liking this option.
