Subject: Segregating squads by base rim rubber band. HELP!

Hey folks,
I have a tourney coming up and I think I may take a tide list. What I'm looking for are colored bands or some way to mark my 180 Boyz into different mobs. I've seen rubber bands for sale but can't find them via google. I could paint the base ring a different color but that's kind of a last resort for me to be honest. Thanks. DrG

Why not just paint a colored tick at the back of each base? You're not painting the whole base and it's still easily identifiable.

I did that with my nids. With my guard I painted it under the base. I generally kept them separate so it wasn't much of a hassle to flip one over and check.

You can also use post it notes and a hole punch to make sticky dots for the back of each base. This gives you an option to move dots around too as squads consolidate, spawn (e.g., termagants), or resize.

Colored electrical tape:
Easy to reconfigure, doesn't damage the model, perfect for orks.

Better to just paint the entire base rim. That way both you and your opponent know exactly who is in what unit. In addition, when I did my Orks each unit has a different color of pants.

The only issue is when you have squads, squad size is a constaly changing thing.
One game I may have 10 trukk boyz with 1 Rokkit and 1 PK nob
Next game I may have 17 footsloggers with 2 BS and a BC Nob.
Some of those boyz can be reused and a static paint color makes it hard to interchange. Also allows things like owning 15 lootas which can be 1 squad of 15, 2 squads of 7 or 3 squads of 5.
So I feel the OPs pain.

I have silicon bands available through my store here: http://www.underthecouch.net/shop/index.php?cPath=89
I can't vouch for how well they stay on with bevelled base edges, as they were originally intended for Star Wars and D&D minis that have flat-edged bases, but quite a few people have bought them to use for 40K. They'll generally be too big.
