I just recently ordered an airbrush to give that a go, and my question is this:
Other than vallejo model air, and thinning various brands, what pre-made airbrush paints are fairly decent for painting minis?

Badger make their own range now, Minitaire its called.
I couldn't review the standard paints for you as I have a large stock of Vallejo to get through myself before I buy some, but I have started using their Ghost Tints range recently and they are great for shading and OSL work. I would recommend picking some up if thats an avenue you'd like to explore.
While the standard Vallejo Air range is excellent I have had a hard time getting their metallics to work without jamming my brush. I use Tamiya for my metallics, while you do have to mix them yourself (50/50 roughly with the thinner they provide) I've found they never clog my brush and they make some really cool alternate metallic colours. I know you said you are looking for pre-made/mixxed but the time I spend mixing the Tamiya metals is nothing compared to the time it takes me to keep clearing clogs when I use the Vallejo Metallics, your milage may vary however.

I see Createx brand at my local Hobby Lobby. I haven't picked any up yet...as they don't have a comparable color to what I want to do for my Tau. Wish they had Model Air, but they don't

Im going to order some minitaire and/or vallejo when they get in stock, also thinking about grabbing the game color case that has 72 colors, thinking that would be a great base to make paints from

Don't wait for them to get in stock. I ordered the minitaire line off of amazon when it was out of stock, it took about a month to get it but I have yet to see it actually in stock.

Can you elaborate about what and why they are good for OSL? Just started airbrushing myself and ive been doing OSL by hand.

They are translucent, this makes them very good at "tinting" an area while allowing the underlying shading and even colour variations to show through.
