SDCC is this week. I know in the past Privateer Press has been there demoing games. I distinctly recall them doing demos of Warmachine and Monsterpocalypse (I even got a special promo figure from that one). Does anyone know if Privateer or any other companies will be present this year?

All I want is a semi-playable version of that game...

"So, do please come along when we're promoting something new and need photos for the facebook page or to send to our regional manager, do please engage in our gaming when we're pushing something specific hard and need to get the little kiddies drifting past to want to come in an see what all the fuss is about. But otherwise, stay the feth out, you smelly, antisocial bastards, because we're scared you are going to say something that goes against our mantra of absolute devotion to the corporate motherland and we actually perceive any of you who've been gaming more than a year to be a hostile entity as you've been exposed to the internet and 'dangerous ideas'. PP is one of the few game company that has shown up for the last several years and some ex-PP employees said it was purely for Matt Wilson to make pitches for his IP to Hollywood. The floor space in the dealer hall has been getting more and more expensive and more dominated by big media. There are a couple others, but they are normally tied to a media IP like Pokemon or Yugio and of course Magic.
I'm skipping SDCC for the first time in 12 years because it isn't fun if you aren't into big media and even then if you are, you have to plan you day around a panel if you want to get into it.
I know a couple of the larger game companies actually rented space in empty store fronts around the convention hall. Cryptozoic was one of them. You may find more gaming companies around the downtown area than in the dealer hall.
You don't go to SDCC for gaming.

Sad but true. I've been going for probably the same number of years as you and I've seen it go from a quiet little show that barely took half of the convention center to the monstrocity it is now. I remember being able to get a hotel room and tickets at the show. I wish they could do something about all of the Hollywood junk. Most of that stuff tends to not even be related to comics, sci-fi, or fantasy.
While you're right, you don't go to SDCC for gaming, it is a good chance for them to advertise to a large number of people.

Heard that rumor about the IP as well. I stopped going to SDCC back in 98 as I saw the writing on the wall. SDCC is no longer a Comic Con in my eyes. It is really a Multimedia convention that grew out of the comic scene.
Though I can still get my tickets for free as I have my connections within that sector of the entertainment industry and perhaps I might do this in a few years, but not right now .Right now I see big multi-billion dollar corporations taking control of everything there and push hard on their product/eye candy on to the masses.
It made me feel sad for the small guy who wants to tell a story in a illustrated manner in one of the biggest comic conventions in the US.

Adam's Motto: Paint, Create, Play, but above all, have fun. -and for something silly below-
"We are the Ultramodrines, And We Shall Fear No Trolls. bear this USR with pride".
Also, how does one apply to be a member of the Ultramodrines? Are harsh trials involved, ones that would test my faith as a wargamer and resolve as a geek?
You must recite every rule of Dakka Dakka. BACKWARDS.
