Hey guys,

I've gotten back into 40k recently and am in the process of filling out my IG army. I've got two demolisher kits semi assembled on my desk and am deciding on their load out.

As it stands I've got a 25 man inf platoon (gren/auto), 1xHWT, 10 plasvets w/ valk, stormies w/ melta, marbo, CCS and a lightning fighter, aiming for 1500pts.

My original plan was to assemble the two demolishers and run them up the middle of the board, soaking up gunfire/obliterating what they find, followed by advancing infantry to sit on an objective. The valk vets would hang around, flying to where they're needed and the stormies and marbo are there to make a mess of the enemy's backfield.

However:

- everyone seems to be lauding the executioner online
- I'm worried about my lack of turn 1 AT (the lightning, stormies and marbo being my only AT)

I can assemble a vanquisher from one of the kits with bits I have (including a suitable vostroyan pask), or any of the tanks from the demo kit. What would be an ideal combination for an all rounder army?

This is because it kills marines and MCs very well, and marines and MCs are common. It's not the only viable option, but it's definitely a good one.

This is definitely a problem. Marbo isn't anti-tank because a single STR 8 shot is not even close to consistent enough, and the Lightning isn't anti-tank* because it only has a single TL LC to threaten tanks with. Your tanks need to be capable of dealing with tanks, and you need to replace the Valkyrie with a Vendetta.

*Or anti-anything, really. The Lightning is garbage, proxy it as an Avenger.

Either the Demolisher or Vanquisher. You need more anti-tank, so those are your two options. The Demolisher is shorter-ranged but can handle more roles, while the Vanquisher gives you range but is a single-role specialist. Either one will work, so it depends on your personal preferences.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

So an exec and a vanq perhaps? I feel they could tackle a diverse range of threats combined.

And yes, the lightning is a handicap... But it's such a nice model (expensive too) that it seems a shame to waste it (despite its measly 2HP and tissue box armour...).

That's a good idea using it as an avenger though, might give it a whirl.

Vanquishers only hit half the time, and Pask makes them better, but expensive. I don't rely on Leman Russes to destroy vehicles very often, since that's what I'd rather use my heavy weapon squads for. Demolishers are one of my favorite anti-everything weapons in the game, and unlike a Vindicator, a Leman Russ should live long enough to get a few shells out. The Executioner is cool, but can overheat itself to death. However, since it's not an ordnance weapon, it can actually shoot the sponsons/hull guns at full BS, which is nice.
