So around a month or so ago I bought Soul Calibur V. I'd played a little bit of IV a long time ago, but this was my first proper introduction to the series, and I'll be honest, I can't stop playing it.
I am sad that they cut out so many characters, but most of the replacements were OK (Z.W.E.I is just awesome, even if he sucks in gameplay) and the character creator is top-notch. Online is great as well, although way too many people go Natsu.
Probably my favourite characters are Tira and Nightmare (amusingly I used to loathe Tira before I realized that you could change the voice acting to Japanese, and now that I have she's probably my favourite)-Nightmare for his raw power and good reach, and Tira for her speed, unpredictability, and awesome personality.
I also played Soul Edge, the original arcade version of the game (via an emulator) and damn, was it difficult. Not quite as difficult as some of the harder difficulty settings on V, but pretty hard nonetheless. Sophitia made my want to punch the screen. Overall I'm glad the series has moved on.
I'm not sure which game I'm gonna buy next. I'll probably get IV (as I have played it before) and maybe III as I now have a PS2. II is available as an ISO for my GameCube emulator, so I might download that.
Any other Soul Calibur fans here?

So I take it you're aware that SC2 is getting an HD port, right?
As disappointing as 3 and 4 were, 5 was absolutely fantastic. Sure, the cast being switched around may have ruffled some feathers, but the actual fighting was some of the best the series had seen. Back when I played, I mained Sigfried. Good old bottom tier Sigfried.

No, I did not know that.
What platform is it going to be on? I wonder how they'll handle the old guest characters like Link...
(Of course in the mean time I might just play the emulated version anyway because it's free and I'm a cheapskate)
On topic, yeah, I like Siegfried. I've never been good with him, but I like him. I didn't think he was low tier though, especially compared to, say, poor old Z.W.E.I or Raphael. He always seems really difficult to beat in the Arcade/Quick Battle modes...

It's confirmed for a PS3 and 360 release. The only guest character confirmed is Heihachi.
Well, ZWEI is now absolute bottom tier, Siggy used to be there. He's still pretty low. His main problem is that his damage is too low for how unsafe he is. He does manage to have some redeeming qualities, but that can't save him from having to work hard to get anything done.
ZWEI is just bad.

Aye. A pity, the character had so much potential. He was like something out of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and yet he is burdened with, well, sucking.
Who would you say is the most overpowered character? I'd say Natsu myself, or possibly Astaroth.

Natsu is powerful, and a top tier competitor, but most of the Natsus you see online are just poor players who only know how to spam one or two abilities. If you know how to counter them, they're easily punished.
Top tier has been Alpha Patroklos for a long time.

I only played nr 4 I think, and enjoyed it immensly. But then again i grew up with the bloody raor series, so my demands are not immense. As long as I get to hit people either with sharp objects or fists, and watch scantly clad figures bouncing around on my screen I am pleased

I love the re-work of Aeon. They really did a good job giving him a more personalized setup then the axe and shield Sophie version. I never felt like Natsu was all that interesting and ZWEI is just confusing in gameplay and design.
Good game, enjoyable times and easy enough to play with my boys.

Haven't played 5. 4 sucked. 3 was fairly good, but didn't play it enough. 2 was AMAZING!! Best of series and my favorite fighter. Soulcalibur was great for its time, but still old. And Soul Edge was fun but the Ps1 controls were clunky.
But yeah, I still play Soul Edge and Soul Calibur 2, and they are epic

Have you played the arcade version? I haven't seen the PS1 version anywhere (also my PS1 emulator doesn't work) and I want to know how they compare.

Soul Calibur? You mean that game about strategically covered women hitting eachother with wips and maces, and then proceed to lose clothing wich finally results in a smashing love scene? Okay, scrap the last bit, but that's always been SC im my eyes.
When I played it at a friend we actually had fun with it. Mainly because of all the silliness happening on screen.
Now that I read my post, it seems like an awesome game!

Especially when playing a game featuring that, with only 16-year old males in that room!
