Last night I lost a number of wounds on my FMCs from my own Warp Storm table!
I realised later that this MIGHT have been illegal. Weapons that automatically hit cannot hit Swoopings FMCs, and only things that snap fire can hit Swooping FMCs (with the exception of Skyfire).
Now, I must roll a 6 on a D6 to generate hits on the unit. Imohtek's Storm is FAQ'ed that it is allowed to hit FMCs, even though it is not snap firing and is instead rolling 6's (there's a difference in theory, just not in practice). Should this be taken as precedence for the Warp Storm, or is it unrelated? I'm leaning toward "Yes, Warp Storm can hit and wound Swooping FMCs."

I would say yes based on the imhotek ruling and the prerequisite of rolling a 6.

I agree with the above. The precedent set by Imhotek's ability makes global effects, such as the Warp Storm, to affect FMCs as normal.

Q: Does a weapon that hits automatically, still hit automatically when making a Snap Shot ? (p13)
A: Yes.

That FAQ has no real effect on FMCs though.

IT needs a FAQ, RAW its a no but I usually discuss this with opponents as sometimes I like the warpstorm hitting flyers (no8 is good against them if it hits). Its a two edged sword, if you play it as you cannot hit flyers then you wont be able to use it against enemy fliers, but wont be auto hitting yours.
I imagine we will see in a FAQ that it can auto hit flyers.

I must have been confused then.. I thought shooting at fliers was snap shots.
I normally run Nids and have not ran the 1 flyer we get yet, so I'm a bit rusty on their rules. I'll go read up on them.

Check BRB FAQ again, I believe its on the same page as your quote
I agree with others that Imoteks ability FAQ, I see it as last edition, or sloppy wording around 'requires a 6 to hit/ hits on 6' interchangeable with 'resolved as a snap shot' (Resolved @ BS1). I would play it as it could hit.

Since the specific warp storm results are resolved the same way as Imotekh's lightning (ie, hit on a roll of six), its best to use the Necron FAQ as a precedent and say it does hit flyers (except for the blast marker result).

Lets be honest, an FAQ in one codex does not mean the same for another.

No, but it does set a precedent for similar abilities. Such as Multiple barrage, Scout moves and Smoke...

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Ok here's were my perspective of the two results on the warp-storm table that have that the roll a d6 to determine auto hits think of them as mechanic similar to vector striking.

I don't dispute that, however based on the horrendous 5th ed FAQ's for Nids I will never say Codex A FAQ says XX so Codex B's problem which is similar to X should have the same answer.

As long as you don't play Tyranids Games Workshop will generally resolve issues fairly in FAQs. In this situation I agree with using the Necron FAQ as precedent due to similar wording.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.
