Ok so WD has 5th ed rules and DftS has 6th?

If so, thank you.

The WD rules were at the end of 5th, and are not accurate in point costs and a few subtle changes in how the rules function. While they are playable, and would work fine for a friendly game, I would not seek out the old WD.

I believe the electronic version of the codex has them in it.

I know Death from the Skies has them.

The rumor mill has the new vanilla SM codex up soon, so I suspect if you can wait a ~1-3 months you can get the flyer rules along with all the other new stuff.

This.

The compendium Death from the Skies is worth the buy.

Just to get a storm raven and talon and nerfed valk? They could have done it in a faq and not a high cost hardcover book.

It's pretty likely that the Stormtalon will be in the new SM codex when it comes out. That being said, the Death From the Skies isn't hardback, so it's only $30-something and I agree is a good read. It has some interesting missions in it too.

Thats all got me kinda caught in the middle now, I want to play with my new toy soldier now but will be p***ed if I buy a £20 book and then not 'needed' to of a couple months later!

Had no idea a new codex was coming, wonder what massive awful thing is next...

On the subject of ST rules, The WD stormtalon is balanced [when updated to be a flyer] but the DFTS ST is OP.

Yes, the AV11 2HP flier is clearly OP.

IIRC they start at 110, and that's with the lame, basic HBs. You are more likely to see them in the 125-145 range. I think as flyers go they are in the middle of the pack. They have a decent amount of firepower, are fairly fragile, but have some nice perks. The ~150 points they were before was just too high.

Still better than a nephilim

And the point still stands that making [5ed] flyers cheaper is NOT balancing them .

Being better than the Nephilim is hardly a feat. No one would've played it at 150 base with AV11 and 2 HP, so Countrary to your statement making it cheaper DID make it more balanced.

I think that's more an issue with the DA flyers, which do kinda suck. But you are right, They are some of the first 6th flyers, so we need to take them into account when we set our benchmarks. But the same could be said about helldrakes. Somewhere between those two extremes lies the codex marine flyers, IMHO.

IIRC (not a guard player) the took away scout/outflank or something along those lines. With the new flyer rules, they didn't make a whole lot of sense, but did close off a number of tactical opportunities.

They did that in the FAQ so ... not new information.
