I know, a question that has probably been fielded dozens of times. I'm quite new to the rules and how things currently work with 40K and I have a bit of a dilemma:

I'm playing Grey Knights as my first ever army. I want to take a 5 man squad of terminators and a 5 man squad of paladins and get them across the field as quickly as possible.

My problem is: I don't know if they can go in tanks. I know each terminator takes up two spaces in any transport, but I have few options open to me as far as tanks go.

I have Rhinos. I have Razorbacks. I have Inquisitorial Chimeras and Land Raiders out the wazoo. BUT! I just want to know if I can stash my Termies in something like that so I can shape my army to better suit these changes.

The rules for each individual vehicle will say what they can/can't carry.
I'd suggest starting with the rhino on p33.

So that looks like a "no" on the Rhinos AND the Razorbacks. I figured as much, but it still helps me a bunch.

Since the Rhinos and Razorbacks are out, I was wondering about the Chimera's.

From what I've read, they don't limit anything on size and I'm just unsure if they're STRICTLY for Inquisition forces.

I plan on fielding Coteaz as an HQ, but I just want something to take the Terminators and Paladins across the board. If I can do it cheaply (points and money wise) I will definitely do it.

Only infantry can ride in a transport. (Unless otherwise noted).

Some transports limit this to not allow terminators into the transport.

Haunted Mordrak, two questions for you to answer:

Are paladins, or indeed any model in terminator armor, classified as infantry?

And

Does the Chimera have anything restricting terminators from entering?

Yes and no?

Yes because the way the readout for the Paladins and Terminators says that they are indeed infantry.

No because the entire description for the Chimera doesn't mention that Terminators may not board it.

As I've said before I'm new and I know I'm making some n00bish mistakes here, I just wanted to clear things up before I went out and picked up a bunch of tanks that I wouldn't be able to use right away.

But bare in mind that your Terminators can't start the game inside a Chimera, as it's a Dedicated Transport (p78) for a different squad.
Once the game begins they can hop in it no problem.

Incorrect. The basic rules already allow them to embark, so Chimeras would have to have a restriction otherwise they can embark.

They can embark on Chimera just fine.

Nos is correct, simply according to logic and RAW. But because there are people like TMO in the world, GW saw fit to include this in the GK FAQ:

Q: Can models in Terminator armour embark onto an Inquisitorial Chimera? (p51)
A: YES

We didn't need the FAQ, since it's completely obvious according to the rules. But we got it anyhow, just in case!

So if I have this right it should be:

I have my Two Chimeras.

I have a squad of Terminators.

I have a squad of Paladins.

Match starts.

My turn, Chimera 1 and 2 are empty.

Terminators embark Chimera 1. Paladins on Chimera 2.

Right?

Yep, perfectly fine.

DeathReaper is not trying to expose your "noobishness", nor is he trying to belittle you.

He is teaching you a method to answer rules questions.
There is a general rule allowing Infantry models (meaning models with the Infantry classification) to embark on vehicles.
Unless there is a specific rule saying otherwise this applies to ALL Infantry at ALL times.

Such an exception is presented in the case of Rhinos (and Razorbacks). Since there is NO such exception presented in the case of Chimeras, then Terminators can in fact embark on Chimeras.

Should you choose to spend more time on this forum, and specifically in the You Make Da Call sub-forum, you will run into this situation again. It is often presented as the "General vs.Specific" situation or argument.

Note that there are some rules regarding WHEN and HOW Terminators can embark on a Chimera, but none that outright forbids them from ever entering a Chimera in the first place.

Assuming, of course, that the Transport Capacity of the Chimeras are not exceeded.....but you already knew that as shown previously.

No no no, you misunderstand! I fully understand that I am a n00b and I'm did not think at all that DeathReaper was belittling me. Heck, my buddy who got me into 40K calls me a n00b all the time and tries to build my army the way HE would play. I take hints and tips wherever I can.

I'm actually very thankful that there are people outside of my circle of friends that I can ask about this stuff because half of it was:

"Ally with Imperial Guard. Field tanks to make up for your lack of such and such"

or

"Field dreadknight. No terminators. Yadda yadda."

I honestly and graciously thank everyone who's offered up this valuable information. Now I just have to change my roster list a little bit (which is no big deal) and hopefully I'll still have the points left over to field my 2000 points.

This is all correct, but there are two things to bear in mind:

1. Chimeras are not open topped or assault vehicles so you won't be able to assault out of them (or charge if they were blown up in your opponents previous shooting phase - and they popped out into the crater).
2. All their terminator friends (especially the ultramarines) will laugh at them.

in the Grey Knight FAQ this question was asked.

Q: can models in terminator armor embark onto a inquisitorial chimera?
A: Yes.

So in the Gk codex, Landraiders, Stormravens, and Inquistorial Chimeras can embark Terminators.

The FAQ entry was already posted. But also as was already mentioned, was never really necessary. Terminators are infantry, and so can ride in any transport by default. The only thing that stops them from riding in certain transports is those transports having a special rule that says that they can't.

If you ever get a Stormraven they can go in there too.

Notice he said look at Mordrak if you want a terminator that go anywhere in a hurry.
