I asked him very politely to assure me that this stuff is legitimate, he then identified himself as David Ross, which is the name printed on pretty much every case and the boxes that they came in. He then nicely explained that he is getting married, and he is moving, so the storage unit he rented had to be cleaned out - these items were simply in the way. He said he didn't care about the value, he just wanted to 'move on' from the hobby. When you consider the gravity of the rigmarole involved with shifting this stuff by selling it - finding buyers, shipping it, driving it around, etc - if the personal value doesn't exist for a person anymore, giving it away is just 100x easier., especially when you're under a pressured time limit.

Found a local craigslister that had 2 dreadnaghts, a land raider, 2 rhinos, 10 death company, a bunch of tactical marines, some eldar stuff and grey knights stuff, codexs, paints, GW carrying case. My brother in law who plays BA contacted the guy and got it for $50. There was some other stuff also, it was a great deal.

Seems legit.
When you have that many models I think it might be safe to say you've transcended from "hobby" to "problem", and its time to move on

I plan to keep it all and let the cosmos decide how to best balance the karma out. Due to the size of the donation, I'll probably be hit by a meteorite soon. edit - For the record, I did give some away. I gave the DKoK army to my friend. He wanted to start one for years and when he saw the case of models I knew he would do anything for it. I closed the case and handed it to him.

Umm. 3 SM Bikes are $40. So 8 SM Bikes are 106.66. Still a good deal, but not $72.72 off.
I am in Canada.
I calculated it as $18 CDN x 8= $144 x 13% HST =$162.72 = savings of $72.72.
I guess could have calculated it as $126 for 2x bike squadron and 2 single kits plus 13% HST making it $142.38 for a savings of $52.38.
It has been a long time since I've been in the hobby and have never touched a SM in my life so I was unfamiliar with the packing for the army.

Damn...I...Woah. I'm going to have to keep an eye on Kijiji from now on.
The only stories I have are; when I briefly worked at GW, after a games day (second to last one I in Canada I believe) there was a case full of assorted daemons and terrain that we couldn't find which store it belonged to, so I was allowed to take it. Scored some sweet old style Seekers.
The second one was not me as the receiver of a good deal but the giver. I really wanted some of the Cadian veterans upgrade packs from FW and a guy I knew really wanted this Lightning fighter I had laying around so he gave me a pack and a bit of upgrades from the fighter. He loved it and I finally got those damn shot-guns for my blood pact. Still don't regret it, my Pact veterans look boss.

From a local wargamer I just bought a batch of Essex medieval minaitures. He had long since stopped painting 25mm figs and switched to 15mm,
100 foot and 25 Cav.
50 cents per foot and 1 buck per cav.
They are still being manufactured and cost 2 bucks per foot and 5 per cav, so I figure 75% off counts as a pretty good deal. It's going to be the core of a KoW good Human army.
He even included two mounted knights and a squad of foot knights (at the same prices) that he had painted himself to a standard I couldn't hope to match.
That's probably my best recent deal, but it's not that unusual. I make a practice of paying bottom dollar for miniatures. I try to pay less than a buck a fig whenever possible.

At a flea market stall at this year's Ropecon, there was a big box of baggied miniatures for 1€ each. Picked up an old Eldar Ranger and a single Advanced Space Crusade scout just for a lark, plus a couple of basic plastic horses. An old Ral Partha miniature of The Vampire, a baddie from Birthright. Those are not the cool bit.
The cool bit was finding, completely unpainted and untouched, Jaek of the Chaos Brothers, an old GW miniature from 1987, related to the same Citadel Journal comic series that brought us Kaleb Daark. Jaek and Helwud (*groan*) were two champions Daark fought in the strip, and presumably, kicked their butts in the name of Malal.
Jaek is the guy with the trident, a pretty neat figure all in all. He's got sunglasses, a lot of rivets and a hat with the word "Love" written on it. Presumably, Helwud has "Hate". As you can see, they were also available mounted, on those cool old metal Chaos horses.

The best I've gotten is a cousin deciding her husbands Warhammer/40k stuff was just taking up space since he didn't play and didn't paint them anymore and was planning to throw it all out. Then they remembered I still collect...
Ended up with a Eldar battleforce, what looks like most of the phoenix lords in metal, avatar, what looks like 2 full squads of howling banshees and another squad of striking scorpions. There's also another box of guardians in there.
Then there were the space marines, a Dark Eldar army which I think ended up being about 40 odd marines (I've still not counted them), plus the ravenwing battleforce, that DA guy with the cloak over one side (metal of course), a predator, vindicator, master of the ravenwing fellow and a dreadnought.
He also had a bunch of lizardmen and wood elves, but I was kind of out of space by that point. Not as good a haul as prehistorics but eh, was free.
Also got about 15 odd of those old GK metal models which I gave over to a friend.

Is white dwarf worth subscribing to? I normally pick up articles off the interwebs and youtube, but occaisionally reading from the WD itself enthralls me. Dunno if it's worth the price tag, however.

That's an awesome find. I agree with you about desirability of current vs old. I pick up batches of WD when I find a good deal, but the only stuff I keep is pre issue #300. Not that it was perfect back then, but it was better, and it's got that nostalgic quality for me, who started gaming in the early 90's.
