I'm not attending but I've been hearing about a lot of strange calls by the TOs with regards to some things. In particular how fortifications are placed and restrictions they've created, and also the disposition of the (rumored) new Codex: Space Marines. Also I've been told they're going against the FaQ and are splitting hits into different pools for weapon ranges. That's disturbing to me, because while I agree the FaQ implications are unrealistic, the impact on the flow of the game could be enormous.

Does anyone that is attending have any insight into this stuff? I haven't been able to find and larger discussion on TO calls at Beaky.

I am attending this year, and here's the lists of rulings I'm aware of that he's made so far:
1. Although the event is 2 FOC, one Fortification can be used, and you can't place it on top of an objective.
I understand this, having two large fortifications could really mess some stuff up.
2. Enfeeble doesn't stack if cast twice on the same unit.
I personally disagree, but the community has a roughly 50/50 split on this one, so I'll live.
3. The Relic can NOT be contested as if it were a normal objective.
Fully agree, as do most players
4. If Codex: Space Marines is released at least one month before the tournament (so September 7th basically) then it can be used. All Space marine players then have two weeks to change their army list, but will not receive a penalty for a late submission.
Its a tricky situation, as people will complain if it is or isn't allowed. Two weeks isn't really enough time to master a list, but then you have to have their lists at some point and can't wait for ever. However, I beleive this will only affect 3 players.

I know the TO personally, and I don't think there's been any discussion about changing the way that wounds are allocated, it'll be done the normal way as per the FAQ.

Regarding Fortifications: It was my understanding that there were a lot of changes restricting where you could put it (like not within 3" of other terrain) and that it had been decided that fortifications would be place at a different place in the sequence of game prep. The summary I was given seemed like the TO was trying to solve a lot of problems that didn't exist.

I personally hadn't heard of the call on the relic, but it makes sense. I didn't even know that was ever a question.

You could have stopped there. Every tournament organizer from the largest to the smallest makes calls that someone on the internet won't agree with.

It's barely worth discussing.

I think that's feeble.
Why not discuss it? A GT has no chance of growing if potential attendees are alienated by rules calls made in an echo chamber. There might be someone signed up for Beaky, as their first GT, confused by these calls. It could give them a bad impression of what a GT is. Or they may decided not to go and miss out on a great experience.
Just because it's on the internet does not make it invalid.

I considered going to BeakyCon this year but scheduling and the format turned me away. 2xFOC and FW was a deal breaker for me at this point but the people who are attending I think know to expect a non-standard tournament format which just fine.

A friend in my gaming group is going and has been testing lists and he has been having a ball with it.

If you don't like discussion then perhaps online forums aren't for you.

The event sold out in less than two weeks. This year as part of the entry fee we are providing ALL the dice. There is a Facebook group for all registered players where the event is discussed in detail. All the rules and guidelines are available in the public domain:
