I read this because I read everything Crack posts. Then imagine my surprise to see a familiar name on this list.

I will admit. The title does have me curious.

I was clueless about it until I saw it. I thought this was something like people in general claim to own.

I was thinking the same thing. Good to see that Cracked is staying up on (relatively) current events. I wonder if GW will send them a C&D order for the article? I'm sure Cracked's response would be hilarious.

Welcome to popculture humour, GW.

I seriously was surprised to see them on the list, not what I was expecting when I opened it. I was expecting to read crazy people laying claim to things and try to sue to prove they own it.

Well, it's nice to see that GW isn't the only company with an insane army of lawyers.

I tend to find many lawyers less than sane, so I figure an army of them must be crazy

Kinda surprised GW made the list.

At least 'Space Marines' is kinda obscure enough to appear trademarkable. Not that GW would have any hope of saying they got it first.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

I don't think Space Marines is really that obscure of a term. Certainly no more obscure than something like elves or dwarves or orcs. Probably even less.

Not obscure *at all*. As mentioned in the article, the term's existed since 1932... to put it into literary perspective, that's almost as old as Agatha Christie's Miss Marple. It's also appeared in media beyond books, turning up in plenty of sci-fi movies (particularly the 80s) and video games besides.

I do like Cracked. They have their odd moments but for the most part, they crack the nail right on the head, and this article was no exception.

The concept is not obscure, but if you actually do a bit of digging the term is not that common.

I was surprised by the audacity of every perpetrator on the list except for Spike Lee. That seems completely in character for him.

It's common enough to make GW's behavior ridiculous.

Only if you were already familiar with the word's history.

To average Joe on the street he probably wouldn't be surprised someone would claim it as their own.

"Space marine" is generic enough a term I don't think anyone would be so shocked by it that they think someone can own it. I would expect them to not know any specific examples, such as GW's, but I can't imagine so common a portmanteau would blow their mind.
