OK, I've taken the plunge and bought an airbrush compressor, tank and the other bits i need to start airbrushing. This morning the airbrush arrived. A BD 320. The thing is, I ordered a BD 130 as recommended for a a cheap starter airbrush. I noticed that the 320 doesn't have the screw mechanism on the back that allows you to limit how far you can pull the trigger thus how much paint will come out at full throttle. I contacted the seller (amazon) and they said they upgraded me for free as the BD 130 was out of stock (why it said it was in stock on their store front i don't know). I thought that limiting thing (excuse my terminology ) would be useful in getting consistent line widths. Anyhow, my question is should i be happy? Am i looking a gift horse in the mouth? Thanks for any help and once again excuse the terminology, i explained myself best i could

Well, I think what's happened is your learning curve got a little steeper, but you've got more room to grow.
If its any consolation I don't use it much (still a bit of a newb myself) as its useful to give it a fully open blast once in a while to keep the paint flowing (tip dry is the enemy!)
I'd be happy with the upgrade, and welcome to the world of ten minute basecoating and zenith highlights!

personally i have never felt the need to use that dial. i can see how it could be helpful but why not just learn good control rather than relying on the hardware.
Although i had the bd-130 and it was a good brush for the price, it didnt take long before i figured i liked airbrushing and wanted to go further with it and upgrade.
comparing the 2 there is very little difference and they are both made in China. as long as it works well enough to get you into airbrushing it should be fine.

If I understand correctly, the cheaper one had a way to limit the double-action so you could only pull so far back, yes?
Most airbrushes do not have this feature, and you will quickly learn to control the paint flow manually. Don't worry, and as always - practice!

Look at it as a "challenge".
You will adapt well enough.
The recommended "dots and lines in a grid" practice will make this easier.

Thanks for the advice all. I will stick with the upgrade replacement as that seems the general consensus. I do hope to get a higher quality one eventually anyways. Its just the expense to start. Tank, compressor, cleaner, thinner, clean-station,cleaning brushes, primer and a set of model air paint all added to a pretty penny. For me at least Thanks again

I've had two airbrushes with that featured and I've never done anything but experiment with it.

Results may vary??
No defined project was thought of?
I got a Baneblade and thought that big an area HAD to be done by an air brush.
Practiced for a month then gave it a spray.
Turned out OK.

I have used the limiting feature when mass-producing something.
I used it when making Grey Knights force weapons. I knew that I was going to paint 50+ weapons, so I considered it likely that at some point I would get impatient or my concentration would slip.....so I used the limiter to prevent me from accidentally airbrushing to "strong" a coat.

Congrats on the airbrush buy! got mine a couple weeks back. Now in general I love modelling hate painting... But now I think its a fair toss either way really love the AB effects.
I say enjoy the upgrade, as mentioned before steeper learning curve but much more room to grow. I reccommend you look up some tutorials on youtube; plenty out there. Practice for awhile, do test models and generally experiment. Its definitely a different tool to a brush and the only way to go is practice practice practice! I aim to fit in atleast 20 mins a day just practicing lines and control onto paper/sheets of plasticard, really helps with getting used to controlling the flow.
Hope you love the AB as much as I am! Also! post some pics when you get going. Feedback is also critical to development!
