Inaugural Comic Quest Warhammer 40k Tournament by The Dice Abide
Comic Quest in Lake Forest is hosting their first Warhammer 40k tournament in years! Come be apart of the inaugural tournament. If you have any questions feel free to post in this thread or PM me. More details below; hope to see you there!
Date: Saturday, August 24
Location: Comic Quest
23811 Bridger Rd. #100
Lake Forest, CA 92630
(949) 951-9668
Cost: The inaugural tournament will be FREE - we are accepting donations in the form of terrain or cash to help improve the gaming area. Anything helps!
Schedule of Events:
11:00 - 11:30 Registration
11:30 - 11:45 First Round Pairings
11:45 - 2:00 Round 1
2:00 - 2:30 Lunch
2:30 - 4:45 Round 2
4:45 - 5:00 Break
5:00 - 7:15 Round 3
7:15 - 7:30 Award Ceremony
Missions:
Game 1: Hammer and Anvil, Big Guns Never Tire (5 objectives)
Game 2: Vanguard Strike, Purge the Alien
Game 3: Dawn of War, The Scouring
Scoring:
Players will record the amount of victory points they earn for each scenario, along with their wins and losses. The winner of the event will be the individual with the best overall record through the 3-game tournament. In the event that more than one person is tied for the best record, victory points will be used at the tiebreaker. Example: Players A & B are both 3-0 at the end of the event. Through 3 games, Player A has accumulated 22 victory points, while player B has accumulated 23 victory points; Player B would win the tiebreaker and be ranked higher.
Army Lists and Modeling:
All players must submit an army list to the tournament organizer at the start of the event. All armies must meet the following requirements:
-Armies must consist of no more than 1750pts.
-Armies must be chosen from a current Games Workshop codex or an official White Dwarf update, such as Sisters of Battle (no Forgeworld for this tournament, may be allowed at future tournaments).
-Allies per the rulebook are allowed
-Armies must conform to standard Force Organization.
-There is no painting requirement, however armies must be fully assembled
-Converted models must be mounted on an appropriate base, must be of a similar size to the official model, and must visibly represent all wargear (WYSIWYG).
What to Bring:
Your Army
-Gaming aides; dice, tape measure
-All pertinent rules for your army: Codex, FAQ's, updates, etc...
-At least 3 objective markers
-Four typed copies of your army list
Special Rules:
-Mysterious objectives will not be used
-Mysterious terrain will not be used
Gaming Order of Operations:
-Players begin each game by exchanging army lists and explaining the roles of any converted models.
-Following that, agree on how each piece of terrain will be played during your game (area terrain, line of sight blocking, etc.).
-Roll to determine Psychic powers and Warlord traits per the 6th edition Warhammer 40k rulebook and your codex.
-Place objectives beginning with the player who wins the roll-off.
-Roll to determine deployment zones. The player who goes first chooses their deployment zone.
-Roll for Night Fighting.
-Begin deployment by alternating the placement of fortifications, beginning with the player going first. (Players fielding a Skyshield Landing Pad or Fortress of Redemption must remove one piece of terrain prior to deploying their fortification.)

Ownership is willing to give out a gift certificate to the winner, but did not give me an exact number. Since the tournament is free I would expect it to be modest, but hey, something is better than nothing!
Hope to see you there!

Didn't realize you guys were a 40k venue and about a 10 minute drive from my house. Looking forward to it.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

They just opened up the gaming space this summer. This will be the first 40k event / gaming in the new space. See you there!

No worries! This was kind of put on at the last minute, but as it was the first available Saturday, I took it. Our next tournament Warhammer 40k tournament will be October 5.
Edit: Spots are filling up quickly, so be sure to RSVP on here or on their Facebook page to secure a space! ( https://www.facebook.com/events/510115685727656/?ref=25 )

Doh mixed up the dates, taking my daughter to the airport that day. Will probably drop by around the 3rd round.

Bummer! But yes, definitely stop by and see the gaming space. We are going to have regularly scheduled open gaming and tournaments going forward.

We had a turnout of 8 for the tournament on Sunday (7 + ringer) - not bad considering it's the first tourney the store ran in nearly 10 years!
Here are the final army standings:
1. Eldar / Tau (Mortetvie)
2. Tau
3. Space Wolves
4. Eldar (Ringer - nickthewise)
5. Eldar (gabezgull)
6. Dark Angels
7. Orks
8. GK / Eldar (MakesKidsKill)
Thanks again to everyone who came out - we were able to fit 8 comfortably and could probably squeeze in 1 or 2 more tables once CQ installs shelving for their terrain.

Thanks for hosting a great event, was kind if crazy that the ringer army almost took first .
Also it was cool to see everyone turn out for the event, some cool armies there. I especially liked the guy's army that had all those wraith units, makes me want to put my new wraith units together!

Might I correct the 2nd place Tau, he was playing Farsight Enclave rules, just a notable difference. (Friends with him, Will (Dark Angels), and Jim (Inquisition/Eldar), that's why I know)
Sorry I couldn't make it, started work the week before, was planning on it but work came up first in priorities.
Maybe next one, but --
Any confirmation on a regular game night for us yet?

That's right, it was a Farsight Enclave... and Gabriel's Eldar army was actually an Iyanden army!
We currently have every other Sunday pegged for Open Gaming - but we do have tables and scenery in the shop, so it's possible to schedule pick up games provided other events aren't going on.
Our next event is actually going to be a 1,000 point tournament on Sunday, September 15. Feel free to join our Facebook group to keep up on current happenings and events! Of course, I'll also be posting tournament info on Dakka soon. https://www.facebook.com/groups/503160629765447/
