Looking to utilize the farseer's Psyker 3 status. But what other upgrades are crucial to the model? I want him to sit backfield/stay alive/consistently buff my models.

What other troop choice will fit well into most any army? Guardians aren't overly exciting to me. Just looking for a unit that can take a hit while holding an objective.

Thanks for your suggestions

Well, an option is a Jetseer and 2x 3 Windrider Jetbikes.
If the Farseer is used to buff your army, I'd give her prescience, guide, and psychic shriek. The first two powers are cast in the movement phase. If the Jetseer gets no wound, you can cast psychic shriek in the shooting phase.

The best small troops units for objectives are rangers (60pts for 5, can infiltrate onto and sit on an objective) and jetbikes (51pts for 3, can hold in reserve as long as possible, boost on 48" and get onto objectives at the endgame).

So I would take 1-2 units of those, one of each or two of one kind, whatever. Farseer could be run with the mantle of the laughing god if you want him on the table from turn 1. Or you could attach him to a squad IF your armies are battle brothers. Are they? Because he's pretty useless if they're not, all the best psychic powers are cast on 'friendly' models, which allies of convenience are not.

What army are you playing? A Farseer will be largely useless if you're not playing Tau/Dark Eldar because then she can only buff Eldar unit.

If you want to make the most of the Farseer, she's best used as an ally in Tau or Dark Eldar.

Tau, I just hate admitting I'm following the crowd. :(

Ya the psychic choices aren't an issue, I am just curious as to what load outs make the seer more effective. I've played vs laughing god seer's and they are tough.

Psychic shriek is only 12" no? Surely rolls on divi twice must be better.

if you are staying back field, hiding, buffing then the farseer doesnt really need anything, however I would take spirit stones of analath to help it cast more.

One of the best troops in the game is the windrider jetbikes, they are actually 61 pts for 3 because you would never not take the cannon upgrade that gives 3 str 6 shots that are ap1 on 6's

For minimum points cost to get a farseer id do:

Farseer - spirit stones 115 pts
wind rider jetbike x3 - cannon 61 pts
wind rider jetbike x3 - cannon 61 pts

237 pts for the entire detatchment

Spirit Stone of Anath'lan is a must if you ever plan on using any Warp2 stuff. If you're all div, no need.

Laughing God Mantle seer is more for Fate/Telepathy casters, you waste the good cast-on-psyker powers in Div otherwise.

If you have spare points, the re-roll failed test runes are also good.
