Hey Guys,

Thought I'd post up my army. I'm newish to the hobby and just learning the game. I had Space Hulk the board game and the old DOS Pc game when I was a kid and always loved the models (BA Terminators!). On a recent trip to the mall a GW store peaked my interest. Well a few thousand BA points later I'm getting around to building and painting it all. I've been airbrushing RC car bodies and other stuff for a few years and I like how quick you can lay down neat effects with it on these miniatures. I want to use this thread as sort of a tracking tool for the stuff I have completed.

Air Brush Equipment:
Iwata Revolution CR
Iwata Eclipse HP-C
Iwata Smart Jet Pro

Paints: A mixture of Citadel, Parama Fascolor, Vallejo, Spazstix and some others. Value Primer, Grey and Red from Canadian Tire.

The army has been fully magnetized so I can swap out both arms and the jet packs. The Baal predator (WIP) has the sponsons and the turret magnetized to switch weapon load outs. Well here is what i've gotten done so far. C&C welcome.

Looks good. One small thing I noticed is the searchlight on the Rhino, you've glued the light itself to the hull and the mount on the opposite side. Small thing when compared to the overall project but that bit in particular looks quite shoddy.

I thought the same - but I saw some people to use it as a nesting space for cable... in few cases it worked pretty good.

Maybe that is his idea.

Cheers.

My favorite part has to be the "glowing" effect, especially the termies' claws. Very cool how the light seems to reflect off the red armor, and provides nice color contrast.

Very nice work, but just two things;
- there are still some mold lines visible
- could I ask why you have the exhausts on the Rhino and Dreadnought, and the vents on the Terminators painted with blue OSL?

I used a small aluminum mesh I have for making a front grill pattern on RC cars. Can't remember where I got it.

Hehe I never noticed that before about the light. I see now! Thanks.

In my models I have completed I have been more diligent about the mold line but one or two doesn't bug me too much, as many as I seem to remove I see two more once the first layer of paint is down. I got a little ahead of myself and bought too much and was trying to work quickly, perhaps too quickly tho.

I figured the Rhino and Dread in the 41st millennium don't run on a diesel fuel so I gave them some power exhaust! (Lucifer engines sounds like something full of power. In my head something like what powers the thunderhammers, lightning claws etc but on a larger scale).

Just blue and white in the airbrush after the model was painted. I allowed some over spray to give the effect of it lighting up the surrounding objects.

You can do a similar pattern to the aluminum mesh with lace. They've been using lace with airbrushes on custom cars and motorcycles forever. It's a nice touch on the rhino, good job.

Nice work on the army and good to see another BA army
You should consider creating a thread over in the P&M Blogs section to document all this stuff.

Thanks! I've taken a lot of inspiration from your army. I'm working at a bit slower of a pace though

Once I get a little more done I'll definitely start up a PM blog, thanks for the idea.

Clean painting for the most part. My biggest issue is that your OSL is overdone to an extreme. Exhaust vents don't need OSL, that's where smoke comes out of, they aren't powercells. Air intakes don't tend to glow. The bolts on a Baal shouldn't have OSL, they're giant metal bolts/rivets. The OSL generally makes it look like the rest of the model should be black because it's the middle of the night...and how an entire arm or half of a jump pack turns blue is beyond me.

I like most of it, the OSL just really detracts instead of adds to me...

I love it but, I have to agree with some about the OSL. Sometimes it looks a bit overdone by doing that you ruin the superb paint job underneath IMHO. Other small gripe is the decals on the Rhino and Pred. You can see the outline of the decal. I noticed other decals you had used and they look great. I just don't understand on such a flat surface why it came out that way.

This is all just some minor CC otherwise great job.

99% of your army is fantastic, but man that OSL is way overpowering and excessive. I need sunglasses to look at, otherwise, well done models.

Love the Death Company the dark grey/black colour is perfect. If you don't mind can I ask how you achieved it? Looks like you've applied a zenithal method is that right?

OSL,..it's like a beer, it looks good, it feels good, you'd step over your own mother just to see some. But you can't stop at just some. Soon you want more blue and anothe power fist. Until your whole model is blue. So I then i says Yeah? You want that money? Come and find it! 'Cause I don't know where it is, ya baloney. You... make me... wanna... wretch.

And it's the year 40000, if they havent made power everything I'm not sure it's a universe i want to believe in.

Yeah used a zenith to do the black. I use the valejo black primer and do a mix of grey increasing the lightness as i move upwards. I also try to highlight the edges of any corners to simulate the edge better.

Some time off so I got a little painting done, now with 50% less OSL! I tried oil washes for the first time on this model and all I can say is I'm hooked. I painted the model before assembly not thinking of the seam in the lower cloth. I wanted to paint the legs and inner cloth but you really cannot see them anyways. I have a feeling it would look worse to fix it now.

New Sanguinary Priest.

A squad of 5 Assault Marines done too. I tried some dry pigments on these for some shading, got a little darked than I like but overall I'm happy with the turnout.

These are awesome. You're a wizard with that airbrush. Since everyone is giving you their OSL opinions... I'll agree that some of it is maybe overdone, but I like a lot of it. Makes it look like those plasma guns are cranked up to 110% when they light up half the marine. And the OSL on the Sangunary wings is A+.
