I need some help with my fledgling Tau Force. I do have over 3 decades of models to proxy with, most are Fantasy or SyFy.

Here is what I have in the way of Real Tau Models:
2x 12 Model Fire Warriors Squads
1x 16 Model Kroot Squad
1x Pathfinder Model [I am thinking of using him a Darkstrider]
3x Gun Drones

Here are the Proxies I am planning on using:
3x 10 man Squads of Clone Troopers [I was thinking of using them as Pathfinders]
Multiple Star Wars Aliens to use as Ethereal

Here is what I got to play with:
I have plenty of models I can use as either Proxies Kroot or Kroot-Hounds
I have Multiple MechWarrior Mechs to use as Crisis Suits and/or Broadsides.
Tons of “Fliers on small Flight Bases” that I could proxy for Drones.

What I am asking for is advice on what to do with what I have in the first two groups.
>What unit upgrades?
>What HQs should I go for?

Ethereals work best with large fire warrior squads, no upgrades needed. Fireblade is also a good choice, generally best stock. Kroot usually want a hound, sniper rounds optional.

Pathfinders are also fine stock to just use markerlights

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

If your going troop heavy, an Ethereal is good.
a 12" Ld bubble and a bunch of freebee Auras.

Its best to keep Troops stock except for Kroot who for basically nothing can get sniper ammo.

But the rest will depend on how many points you are playing.

You will want a hammerhead in there as well to give anti armour support!

1. Go to FLGS on a 40K game night.
2. Announce to no one in particular "I have over 10,000 points of Space Marines".
3. Sit back and watch as some 30-ish Neckbeard who still lives with his parents not only disputes your claim, but goes on to describe his 30,000 points of Blood Angels and how he has been playing since Rogue Trader days... And yet you will have never seen him either play 40K or that army.
4. From here, you have several options. Continue the conversation, or just end it. Either way, I guarantee you will waste 1+ hour of your life talking to this guy. Have fun!

The Hammer head isn't That necessary as Broadsides are usable for Anti Light, And Crisis suits for Anti Heavy

Crisis suits are the Swiss army knife of our army and is kittable for most any occasion, though now broadsides completely out shine them for Missiles.
