I am looking to challenge a Ork player tomorrow, and I really wanna crush him
However, I've played him a million times before, and 9 times out of 10 he either ties or beats me
As a Space Wolves player, how do I take on Orks?
What units do I take? What tactics do I use?

I'd really appreciate any help

What do you have, and what is his list?

Advising you on how to kill greentide orks won't help you against battlewagon bash, for example.

I actually dont know for sure, what I really need is some general good ideas. I need to know what to bring to fight them in general, whats a weakness I could use against them? Whats an advantage I have? Stuff like that

As an ork player, I know longfangs are scary. Krak breaks vehicles, frag puts some hurt on the boyz. Drop pods can also ruin lootas like nobody's business, especially if you've got flamers.

Something I've always wanted to try against foot-slogging Orks:
Njal, 3 Rune Priests (7 in double FOC), 2-6 Long Fang in a Drop Pod. Deep Strike right within the mobs and unleash JotWW...

If you see Lootas, deal with them as soon as possible. Every single time I've played SW against Orks, my Long Fang squads have been wiped out turn 1 by Deffgun fire.

That could be fun, and is worth a try. The Long fangs might be a bad idea however, because they cant shoot out of the drop pod

They can still snap shot but it may not be very effective. The long fangs are better of being deployed at the start.

Grey hunters have built in anti-horde. If the boyz charge you, you still are very likely to win. I know this because I assault SW with my BA and still lose. I can't imagine init 3 boyz are going to do any better.

6 big squads of Grey Hunters with drop pods and a mix of melta, plasma, and flamers, backed by standard 6 man rocketFang squads, and a few Rune Priests will cover your bases.

Drop the pods empty to funnel the orks into tighter spaces, and use Jaws to snipe out the I3 Nobz, and suddenly the Boyz can no longer assault your drop pods, which allows you to shred them with bolter fire and frag missiles and means the orks will have a hard time making effective use of their numbers.

By the way, Murderous Hurricane does hilarious things to big mobs of Orks. It won't do a ton of wounds, but forcing the orks to make 2 dangerous terrain tests (one to move, and one to either run or assault) will thin a Boyz mob out nicely.

True dat, but they are also fun while being deployed in a drop pod along with Logan Grimnar, who can give them relentless

Drop pods full of combi-flamer wolf guard?

Power weapon equipped wolfguard, let them come to you then pop logan and counter attack and go to town on them.

I think 20 boyz would get butchered by 10 grey hunters. Especially after the boyz took fire for a turn or two.

Are you playing KPs Njal or objs?

Can you give us an idea of his list? Cyberplanning VS an unknown is kinda pointless.
Whirlwinds VS Ork sloggers hurt as do Vindis - they can hurt pretty everything in an Ork list albeit at short range.

If you are trying that LF drop list, taken Logan - makes them relentless so can fire away at will, is a beat stick VS anything but Gaz and can absorb wounds from the LFs.

They do. Only dedicated Assault units can actually beat 10 Grey Hunters in the first round of assault. The Banner plus counter attack plus MoTW is too good. That's 30-36 attacks, rerolling 1s, before the boys get to swing (plus overwatch, rerolling ones)

However, thats assuming the banner, full 10, counter attack LD check and Motw.
A lot of SW GH units these days are 6-7 no mark, no banner.

60 Grey Hunters. 6 pods. 6 Meltaguns. 6 Flamers.
Orks WILL die. If they're camping in Battlewagons, pop it with the Meltaguns then flame them to ash. I don't know of any ork units who can survive a full on drop pod assault. Maybe Meganobz, but your Meltaguns will still ID them.

Hmmm, had a quick think from an Ork POV to counter this and could not come up with one.

Drop a few GHs/MG and take an ADL for you LFs maybe?

Loganbomb is expensive and mediocre, but can sometimes work extremely well... in very specific circumstances.

Ratius: The only thing I can think of is Biker Nobz or Dakkajets. T5 means you have nothing to ID the Nobz on bikes, and most of your weapons are either 1-shot or wound on 5s.
One grey hunter squad as you described will (assuming 4 flamer hits, which is very generous,) cause on average 2 wounds per turn. One dead biker nob isn't a huge deal. The dakkajets are just good because you have no AA. The other option is just taking a massive amount of boys: 1 GH squad causes maybe 10 wounds per shooting phase. I've got 150 boys.

My counter list would resemble this:
Biker Boss, Power Klaw, Attack Squig
Big Mek w/ KFF
6 Biker Nobz, painboy, 2 Power Klaws, Waaagh! Banner, Cybork Bodies
Dakkajet - Extra Soopa Shoota
Dakkajet - Extra Soopa Shoota
100 Shoota Boys

That's slapdash and I didn't calculate the exact points, but it's about 1500, maybe just a few points over. If you did decide to take an Aegis+Quadgun, I'd drop the dakkajets and rake a full 150 man Ork horde instead. (Maxing out my troops, once you add the Biker Nobs.)

Longfangs, as was said, with Heavy Bolters, Missile L:aunchers or BOTH work.

Blood Claws are ideal for ork bashing as are their skyborne brethren.

Deploying nothing and waiting for his force to separate into its components is never a bad idea. Even Ork hordes have to go after the objectives eventually.

Flamers. Like you needed to be told.

Their Wagons require Multimeltas. Cheap and disposable units with Multimeltas. Hmm...

How did it turn out?

It would have been handy if we had known whether it was Battlewagons or a Green Tide... With my TAC Wolves I always have trouble with Green Tide, but I usually beat Mechanized Orks due to all the Long Fangs we can put out there.

150 models. Good lawd. Its a lot to kill.

Weeeeeell first off your focus the grots!!!! pay no attention to the lootas/battlewagons/boyz/trukks/dakkajets/everythin else commin at you!
its all just grots! and once you killed em all GG! U WIN! once they are all dead just turn the other way and laugh as you have just won the game!
as for units to take TONS AND TONS AND TONS of scouts!
Tactics to use??? none you just win if you can kill the grots!

anyways as a honest ard boy myself it all depends on what the player is runnin. trukks? pop them all and kill 25% of the squad just make them roll leaderships they will kill themselfs!
greentide take vinys and just template them over and over again focus one squad at a time dont try to kill all 3-5 at once
bikers? well they are to elitey shot at em till they die or use rune priests take make them roll Initiative tests that cripples the very costly nob/boy bikers

best advice EVAR

Well I played with a list that had 60 grots, 10 Magenobz and 1 26 x boyz unit as troops. won 7-5 on Scouring and 11-4 on Big Guns Never Tire. Warboss, BigMek with Shock Attack led the group and 2 Zzap batteries and a Killakannon backed em all up. took 9 Lootas just to finish things off. 2 full Warbuggies Squadrons really helped get side arcs.

Meganobz were the MVP's though. Really great results from them.

Idea was to kinda hang back and shoot a bit while grotz died and as the eenmy came forth to get objectives, the Meganobz stomped em into the ground pretty brutally. My Boyz kinda were the second tier of the assault, pushing forward in turns 3, 4 and 5. My Kommandos (so stealthy I never even mentioned them wearlier! Ha!) did the Line breaking and minor damage to rear units, ganing one when the opportunity presented itself but mostly just there to hang on for dear life in cover somewhere in the enemy zone.

Fun.

7-5 win was against Blood angels. Killed mephiston with Zzap wounds and then Meghanobz (cause the best kinda kill is Overkill).

Second game was a grind but ultimately the enemy simply couldn't cross the equator to get to the objective that decided the game and couldn't get any secondaries except first blood.

But the big problem for him was that the grots attracted too much of his attention and cover saves were making any losses other units took fairly nominal.

Space Wolves would be wise to press the field and slay the real threat, the Meganobz, in my force before anything else but so few weapons that matter can reach them cleanly...

Its tough. But not undoable. I think a lot of the advice here would help in killing off the horde I was bringing, or at least making the game close enough.

Im tellin you just kill dem pesky grots!
