I've always liked the idea of combat squading. Sergeant, Melta, and 3 marines in a rhino while a lascannon and 4 marines fire from the back. However I've never tried it. It it worth it or does it just reduce the combat effectiveness?

Really, it depends on the mission and the opponent. If you are playing Kill points, then they are probably more of a liability, but in other missions they are probably better as CS. Especially as rhinos can carry 2 halves of a combat squad, and you can then drop one squad out to capture an objective while continuing the advance. Against horde armies, it can be a bad idea to CS as you lose force concentration, but on the whole, I like them, but really it's a matter of what you prefer. Try both out for a few games and see.

? You need to destroy both parts of the squad to get the KP

From the codex:
'If you decide to split a unit into combat squads, then each combat squad is treated as a seperate unit for all game purposes from that point'

'All game purposes' includes kill points, unless they have FAQed it.
