Wave 4 has been announced and looks to be coming out early 2014.

Some interesting releases:

Tantive 4 (Blockade Runner) ($89.95)
Rebel Transport ($59.95)
Variant X-Wing (looks like the S-foils are locked)
Jek Porkins
New Epic tournament rules.

All of this information was found on the FFG forums or the X-Wing Facebook group and confirmed with pics. Except for Porkins. I didn't see any pics of him.

variant x-wing?? Didn't see that! Already have a porkins paint job so maybe, just maybe, I'll be passing on my first x-wing ship lol.

For the record, scale is off on both large ships, that is beyond a doubt, having heavily researched both for custom ships in the past few months, and finishing a tantive based on the Kenner toy.

Also for the record, I think it doesn't matter. The Kenner one is massive on a regular 3X3 and the base is huge as it is a heavy ship... to make things playable, you kinda need to make some scale concessions... YMMV obviously.

Yay Porkins!!! New ship time!

I have a problem, but I can handle it. *wallet catches on fire and crashes from internal sabotage.*

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Wait doesn't this mean we can now run the whole of red squadron 1-5 now or? Though I do wonder what/if the imperials are getting (regardless of them making the big ships workable for both factions, they HAVE kept each release so far a 50/50 between the two, and if this is it it'l be the first time they've skewed it over to the rebels)

Indeed, the corvette in the video looks less than two thirds the size of the toy which is already two thirds of its correct scale resulting in something that is less than a quarter of the true volume Either way, the size still correctly conveys the feel of a small capitol ship and has a ton of detail. I'm completely ok with them using a sliding scale based on classes of ships (1/270 for fighters, 1/500 for small capitols, 1/1000 for large capitols) as long as the visual jump in size is still easily perceptible.

I'm not so sure. I'd dont think its escapes FFG that people are willing to pay $100 for a baneblade and $400-900 for a titan. If they just keep increasing the model size by the same ratio roughly (mill falc is 2-3x the length of an xwing, corvette is 2-3x the falc, ISD is 2-3x the length of the corvette), it becomes at least a possibility for apoc sized games. Models of that size aldready commercially exist as well but are obviously not prepainted ready to go varieties.

I don't see this as an issue at all because they are usable for either side. Their use also, most likely, relies on scenarios only. I don't see them being used in "Org Charts" for leagues and game nights.

Porkins is basically an add-on, but there's nothing stopping them from releasing a 4th ship that's Imperial only and fighter sized.

Okay, gotta ask... is there anything saying this guy is an X-wing for certain, or could it be a Z-95?

If it is coming with the transport, it makes sense since that is an iconic moment from Empire with the twin transports being escorted by X-Wings in cruise mode.

It's an x-wing, not a headhunter, for sure. Same model, just a repaint.

There's always the possibility that they used the standard X-Wing just to show the scale, but did not show the "variant" X-Wing.

I might be talking out of my rear on that one, but if FFG said that the variant is to have locked S-Foils I am willing to believe them.

According to the FFG forums, and some info I received from some dudes at Gencon, it's a repaint. Zoom in on some of the available images and you can see the diff scheme. I was hoping for some s-foil closed versions, but, alas, looks like its a minor variation.

So get a breathmint Kan!

If it's just a repaint, I'd rather they just release it on its own rather than tack it on to the transport's price tag.

Yeah, Im loving the news!

Ridiculous how fast FFG seems to have reacted to fans crying out for big ships! Even if theyre slightly out of scale, Im fine with it - these should really add a whole bunch of awesomeness to the game!

Corvette to ISD is a huge jump, even 2-3x is going to be enough to make it unplayable 99% of the time even if FFG could successfully design one at a sane price. The corvette is probably too big for a standard 3x3, but most people are playing in a 3x3 square marked on a larger table and can easily accommodate a 6x4 game to make room for corvette-size ships. But once you get beyond that and scale up to ISD-size you're going to need special tables that most people don't have. And that's assuming FFG skip over the frigates and cruisers entirely and go straight from corvette to ISD. If you have a 2-3x increase from corvette to the rebel frigate, then another 2-3x up to ISD/Mon Cal cruiser size you're well past the point where you're spending hundreds/thousands of dollars on a ship and can't ever use it in a game. I can't imagine the market for this exists at all.

And sure, people pay $500+ for titans, but don't forget that most of those are painting projects, something that wouldn't exist for a hypothetical $500 x-wing ship.

ISD is completely unfeasible even at a 1/8th of the correct scale... It would be 22ft long at 1/270 scale if I am recalling correctly. It's just not gonna happen without a mind numbing scale issue. Guys, certain ships don't suit the game in scale or function. This is a fighter based system at the end of the day, not BFG...

In regards to the scale:

It seems like they aren't in scale. Also it kind of seems like there will be Star Destroyers eventually as it seems like they want to put in ships that they want in there.

I guess I was wrong about the S-Foils being locked. Looked like it initially.

Although I do hope that means that maybe they'll be releasing Tie Interceptor variants that are grey instead of blue!

Out of curiousity, how are people feeling about the inclusion of larger ships? I know that initially I was excited but when I think about it, do I really want larger ships that could swat away the various fighters quickly?
Of course, I guess it's giving people choice about how they want to play too.

Got to see them in person at GenCon, and all the new models are quite cool, especially the Tantive.

Honestly - one of the reasons I've been baffled about the success of X-wing is the small scale represented. When I think back to all the cool space combat in the movies - it's always big capital ships supported by dozens of fighters vs. HUUGE star destroyers and fleets of tie fighters. I can't recall any dogfights of 1-2 Rebel ships vs. 2-4 Tie fighters.

I'm completely play with one or two large capital ships ala the blockade runner toy from the 90s, inmost likely won't mind what the release as long as it keeps remaining fun. Though this might give me rules for the blockade runner, instead of Tom's play test rules, (hint hint Tom)

Indeed. TIEs chasing the Millenium Falcon in ANH ("Don't get cocky, kid!"), TIEs chasing the falcon into the asteroid field, the Trench Run (3v3), and the ROTJ Death Star II core run. The majority of the time we see any detailed fighter engagement, it's less than 6 fighters.

I'm inclined to believe they'll make something they call a star destroyer, it just won't be an Imperial class star destroyer. They'll find away to give us something that effectively functions in a similar fashion and looks similar to an ISD... but won't be specifically that.

This should only go to show how ridiculously out matched the Rebels were.

To be honest, when you see detailed fighter combat in any movie or TV show, it's because the scene is concentrating on one pilot and maybe his/her wingman attacking or defending against the enemy.

I'll give you the first one - but the second one they're escaping a Star Destroyer no? With more than a few Ties chasing them (I'm not the biggest SW nerd). But surely you can't count the attacks on the DEATH STAR(s) as dogfights?

In the Asteroid chase, the Star Destroyer wasn't really a huge player (they wanted the Falcon Intact, and Turbolasers aren't really good at that). Against the Death Stars, especially the first (with only about a dozen ships per side) several critical engagements came down to only a couple fighters duking it out.
