So i just got the new space hulk game, and first let me say its so much fun.
But on the opening cut scene is shows somthing like 1000 blood angles deployed, and then it says surviving 50, wouldent that mean their whole fighting chapter would have pretty much been killed? and crippled them so much they they would have completely destroyed?

You do know the little fluff in Space Hulk 3rd, tells us they failed the last time they went into a Space Hulk. I doubt only 50 lived, but the did suffer a huge loss.

It's a video game. The "lore", such as it is, in the 40K video games has no real bearing on...well... anything in the rest of the hobby.

Going by its fluff only 50 survived. 6 centuries and back at full fighting strength they find the Space hulk agian and send the chapter agian to recover artifacts/complete the mission given to them 6 centuries ago.
taken from lexicanum
"The Sin of Damnation is a space hulk that was assaulted by the terminators of the Blood Angels' First Company, led by Captain Michaelus Raphael.
Six hundred years before the arrival of the Sin of Damnation, the Blood Angels' entire chapter was decimated during a failed assault on another space hulk in the Secoris system, leaving only fifty marines in the whole chapter. Six centuries later, another space hulk, the Sin of Damnation, was spotted by Rogue Trader Borrak Vorra near the Blood Angels' fortress monastery on Baal. Spurred on by their shame from the disaster in Secoris, the Blood Angels dispatched their First Company, under the command of Captain Raphael. The space marine force, consisting of over eighty veterans in Terminator Armour, managed to not only cleanse the hulk of thousands of genestealers, but also recovered an ancient Blood Angels artifact in the process."

The original Space Hulk board game did have background where the BA took horrible losses in their first try to board the Sin of Damnation. That's the backstory for the game - they're going back once it's been found again. They want to strike that loss from the records with a resounding victory.

Bleh. I suppose, in terms of "all canon is not canon" blah de blah, it's a viable possibility. But in the way the 40k universe is currently set up, there is no way that:
a) an entire Space Marine Chapter would be involved in sorting out a single space hulk, and
b) said Chapter would only send a bunch of Terminators second time around if the first time went that badly.
It just doesn't fit current fluff, and I'm glad it was retconned from GW's own vision. It's a pity the developers don't seem to have much of a handle on the background.

It would take a "bunch" of terminators hundreds of years to search the spacehulk Sin of damnation. as seen in this picture, a 8km long battlebarge next to the... 1000km? long Sin of Damnation
its better than a lot of the current fluff.

Its not a slip at all, it is an exact copy of the situation outlined in the 2009 release of Space Hulk (I'm not sure about what previous versions depicted).
@Super Ready, it was a different space hulk the second time around.
EDIT: More interesting is the date given for the original incident, 996.M40. This indicates that Dante was one of the 50 survivors, possibly even the chapter master at the time depending on how you interpret the wording of his longevity.

It still seems like too much of a risk to me. Sending an entire Chapter onto one hulk which could theoretically jump into the warp again... I wouldn't want to be that short-sighted Chapter Master.
That, and the bits of fluff regarding Marines beaming aboard to grab specific bits of tech or check out specific things before getting the heck out of dodge again. That is, pre-planned missions - not a floor-by-floor sweep of the entire thing.
Fair enough points about the size of the thing and the... erm... current "fluff" however. BROFIST!

Agreed. The explanation of how the operation went to hell makes sense, but the operation itself doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Like you said it seems silly to send the entire chapter on board.
On a side note, the new Death Company Index Astartes depicts the Blood Angels as being nearly wiped out in M37 by the Black Legion, as "...thousands of Blood Angels corpses were desecrated, their gene-seed ruined beyond recovery." There are all kinds of things that could be taken from that one sentence. And it seems the Blood Angels are quite good at coming back from the brink of extinction.

I haven't seen the new DC fluff - didn't even know there was any! *furious googling* - but, where that particular battle has cropped up before (Macken), it's been the force that was there that was almost wiped out. Not exactly the entire Chapter. There weren't thousands of them, either.
...hell, that line doesn't even make sense. Thousands of Blood Angels corpses? The Chapter doesn't approach 2,000 in number, how is that possible?!

This is actually the 2nd mission in the space hulk game (Sin of Damnation campaign) and I followed the deployment for optimum chance of success.

Jeez what is with the BA almost being destroyed all the time anyone read the novels? They almost get destroyed and from what you guys are saying in space hulk also. Seems like the BA are barely hanging on, I guess it kind of goes with there fluff as a "dying" chapter becuase of the flaw in the gene-seed.

I want to know why a 1st company terminator would praise the machine spirit of his assault cannon instead of his primarch.
My thoughts on the game. Average, Pretty clunky. Probably belongs on a phone tbh. Not worth $30 ever

That was patched yesterday mate.
The original text had 1000 BAs going into the SoD "6000" years ago, putting the date around the 34th/35th millenium.
However that is still well outside of the Second Founding. Just a poor piece of fluff writing.
Also there is no mention of "50 survivors" (just loaded the intro again now).

The correct gap is 600 years, the original incident was in 996.M40, as is the 50 survivors. Those facts are taken straight out of the mission book from 3rd edition Space Hulk.

And the Original SH computer game was about Deathwing not about the blood angels. The boardgame to which this new Spacehulk is based on is 600 years and about the Blood angels.
1st edition - Blood angels
Space hulk video game - Dark angels: Deathwing
2nd Edition - Blood angels
3rd Edition - Blood angels

You missed one - there was a Blood Angels videogame too. And being the later one, I imagine most people remembering older games are thinking of that rather than the Deathwing one...

See, the only computer game I knew of was Vengeance of the Blood Angels for playstation, because I still have that game and have played it in the last year. Never knew about Deathwing.
When I read the fluff in the 3rd edition game, I seriously wondered to myself if someone told the writer that it was supposed to be that initially the entire First Company of the Blood Angels went in, and only 50 escaped, and somehow the extra "0" got added in as a typo.
You must remember that the writing in Games Workshop products really has no linear qualities, and even what does gets ret-conned regularly by latter works. It actually is pretty poor.
As said above, the fluff in the video game is lifted from the book in the 3rd edition boxed set.

No, he's making a grammar-nerd joke about the usage of the word "decimate" (which means to reduce by 10%, or to kill 1 in 10). Not that I particularly like the way "decimate" is becoming synonymous with "annihilate" in modern usage, the language is what it is.
