If using the roman military Act of decimation then there would of been roughly 55 not 60. Decimate mean to destroy a large percentage of. The definitions of words change, see "the f word" South Park episode for a good example

Well I think a chapter can be regrown from one geneseed in 55 years or something like that so i guess it's possible they were annihilated like that.

Pretty much this.
It can take centuries but as long as their are suitable recruits, gene-seed and those with the proper training a chapter can recover. They will be out of action for a long time however.

You could easily rebuild the chapter from 50 surviving members. Especially if they managed to recover geneseed from those who didn't survive, also not counting any stockpile they had going into the whole mess.

They could have rebuilt almost the whole chapter within a couple decades.

Also, they most likely left a token force to guard their fortress monastery. A dozen or so marines, such as a couple techmarines, older marines, as well as whatever neophytes were in training at the time.

A smart chapter will deliberately leave enough behind so that, if things do go wrong, the chapter will endure.

I'm sure it depends a lot on how good the facilities are back at the old chapter base and how much geneseed you have stored up. The Blood Angels may be the most well equiped chapter in the galaxy so they can get 'er done.

I wouldn't say "easily" rebuild. Look at the Crimson Fists - they had more than 50 survivors, and they're still struggling to recover. Not slowly and surely plodding their way towards it - *struggling*.
Other Chapters that have been dealt such severe blows have in the past been disbanded and re-recruited into other Chapters, or gone out with a bang in one final glorious crusade.

They also didn't get a break after they were attacked.
The orks were still besieging the system while in this case the Blood Angels could just walk away from the hulk... well not walk but you get the idea...

They also lost their Fortress Monastery.

This is probably the biggest reason they are struggling. They lost all their facilities and any geneseed they may have had stored up.

Watch Sparticus: War of the Damned for a excellent depiciton ot the Roman act of Decimation (watch the series anyway - its awesome)

But yeah the Blood Angels were nearly destroyed first time round invading the Sin of Damination (not all in terminator armour which did not thelp when the genestealers woke up). Also they have other problems if you read the James Swallow novels - nearly fought a civil war........

I haven't seen the new DC fluff - didn't even know there was any! *furious googling* - but, where that particular battle has cropped up before (Macken), it's been the force that was there that was almost wiped out. Not exactly the entire Chapter. There weren't thousands of them, either.
...hell, that line doesn't even make sense. Thousands of Blood Angels corpses? The Chapter doesn't approach 2,000 in number, how is that possible?!

Got this from over on the Bolthole

http://www.thebolthole.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2814

During the long years of the Seventh Black Crusade, the full might of the Blood Angels Chapter falls upon a vast Black Legion warband on the world of Mackan. Although the conflict ultimately ends in the near-extinction of the Blood Angels at the hands of Abaddon the Despoiler and his primary lieutenants – the sorcerer-lord Iskandar Khayon and the swordmaster Telemachon Lyras – the Blood Angels Reclusiarch Thalastian Jorus becomes one of the few Imperial heroes to ever land a blow against the Warmaster of Chaos.

With his Chapter devastated, the Chaplain endures weeks of hardship in the wilderness and the constant trials of keeping his crazed warriors undetected on Mackan. When the time is right, Jorus leads his Death Company in a lightning raid behind enemy lines, butchering the unprepared sworn warriors of the Despoiler’s honour guard, and allowing the Reclusiarch to lock blades with Abaddon himself. It is said the Warmaster still bears the scars of that battle, even three millennia later.

Whatever the truth of the matter, it is known that the Despoiler honoured Jorus once the war was over – perhaps in mockery, or perhaps with nothing but sincerity. After Mackan, thousands of Blood Angels corpses were desecrated, their gene-seed ruined beyond recovery. Of all the Chapter, only a handful of bodies were left undefiled: Reclusiarch Jorus and his Death Company, clad in their battered and broken black ceramite, seated in makeshift thrones made from the armour of those Black Legion warriors they had killed on that fateful night.

Looking through the thread ADB has confirmed the reference to thousands is a typo and will be corrected in time.

So i just got the new space hulk game, and first let me say its so much fun.

But on the opening cut scene is shows somthing like 1000 blood angles deployed, and then it says surviving 50, wouldent that mean their whole fighting chapter would have pretty much been killed? and crippled them so much they they would have completely destroyed?

That was patched yesterday mate.
The original text had 1000 BAs going into the SoD "6000" years ago, putting the date around the 34th/35th millenium.
However that is still well outside of the Second Founding. Just a poor piece of fluff writing.

Also there is no mention of "50 survivors" (just loaded the intro again now).

Maybe he's referring to the launch video

The original incident wasn't in the Sin of Damnation, it was a different space hulk.

@Pilau Rice: Good to know they plan to fix it, but I don't believe it was a typo. Seems to me like they wanted to give it a little more weight and decided to go with "thousands" without really thinking of the fact that the whole chapter numbers less than that.
