Hey folks I'm new to dakka dakka I'm planning a new army, and seeing how spess marheenes are getting a new codex I think it's time for me to get that Crimson fist army I've always wanted to do. I have already taken a look at the previous edition and started planning.

My main force is Orks and I also have a shooty Dark Eldar army, so my next choice was between csm nurgle for a tough as nails army or some vanilla marines. Because for the Emperor!

I don't play competively but I want to have a chance to win, I'm usually up against blood angels, nids, csm or dark eldar.

Anyway, these are my initial thoughts on a list. I wanted it somewhat fluffy and fun.

Libraraian in termie armor and shield. Can he take another weapon??

10 sternguard vets in a drop pod the sgt has meltabombs.
Their job is to drop in and take out monsterous creatures or things with good cover saves or 3+ armours.
Sort of a super expensive semi-suicidal unit.

10 tactical space marines. Sgt with power fist. Lascannon and a plasma gun.
Dedicated transport: Razorback with twin-linked lascannon. This unit will combat squad and take the lascannon in the razorback and the sgt and plasma on foot.

5 scouts with snipers and camo cloaks. Because they're cool. And choosing wound allocation on 6's to hit and rending on 6's to wound could be very nice with some luck.

Then I should have around 200 pts left that I've no idea what to do with. Maybe that new AA tank? An aegis wall and another tac squad? Suggestions are super welcome. (Also I'm writing this in my phone so I'll clean it up when I get home)

What I would recommend for the last 200 points, another Tac squad in a DP, and swap the razorback for a DP. Then drop a couple of SG to get the libby in the pod with them. That should leave a few more points, which I'd use to fill out the scouts to 10 men if you can, allowing them to combat-squad and camp 2 objectives in your half of the field, meaning the tacs can focus on claiming an enemy one. I'd also drop the PF if you need the points, as you don't really want tacs in CC, and the meltabombs should handle any tanks.

I really like the idea of the librarian with the sg. Dropping in and casting force dome on them and then the sg shoot something to bits (hopefully)

10 snipers would be really cool and up the chances for some rending action.

Might drop the PF too yeah. I'll look it over when I get home.

Bear in mind that the libby, come the new codex in a couple of weeks now, will not have access to Force dome, so that might not be a plan to rely on in the long run. That said, with access to 4 psychic disciplines he can still get some good synergy with the SG, as with biomancy, Endurance gives them FNP and relentless, and enfeeble makes the special ammo even more effective. The pyromancy primaris power gives you essentially a heavy flamer, which should get in range easily with the pod, and telepathy and telekenesis also have some good options.

Oh, right! Guess it's time to check out the rulebooks psychic disciplines too!
Sounds like there are some cool combos to be had there.

Teleporting in some terminators via the drop pod a good option? Maybe for tankhunting or protecting the SG from cc?

Termies with a DP/Locator beacon is a good combo, but to be honest I would say that should be the next investment when building to 1500 points, as up to 1000 I would focus on getting a good core of troops and one or two specialised units like the SG. So for now, I'd say go with libby, 10 scouts, 2 tacs in pods and sg in pod. That gives you a reasonably good number of bodies and offensive firepower.

Yeah that might be wiser.

Right now the list looks more like this

the libby, though I want to give him some cc ability for when I get charged and challenged

10 sniper scouts

1 drop pod with the SG, the libby will run with these guys

1 drop pod with 5 tac marines

I still want to keep the razorback with the TL-lascannon for fire support and the tac marines with the additional lascannon in it.

the other 5 marines will have to footslog behind the tank or get in cover though. And the 2nd drop pod only has 5 marines in it, so I'm getting a bit more unsure of the razorback tbh.

If you are putting the libby with the SG, then I would actually use the sgt to accept a challenge, as the libby is to valuable to lose if you can help it.

Regarding the razorback, the reason I caution against it is that running a mix of pods and rhinos/backs is that for either to be effective at this level, everything needs to be in one or the other to provide target saturation. I would say the ability to get shooting all your firepower on T1 outweighs the benefit of the single TLLC. For a list similar you yours, I'd recommend the following:

Libby, TDA, shield: 145

10 Tacs, plasmagun, lascannon: 190
Drop pod: 35

10 Tacs, melta, MM, meltabombs: 180
Drop pod: 35

10 scouts, snipers, ML: 180

8 sternguard: 200
drop pod: 35

total: 1000 points

this way, the scouts can infiltrate, and 2/3 pods can come in on T1, either sg to kill something quick, or tacs to let the sg counterattack where needed.

Keep in mind that the Libby can't cast in the movement phase after deep striking, so disembarking from the drop pod will limit the librarians support abilities on that turn.

This is where I would recommend the primaris pyromancy power, which basically gives you a heavy flamer with soul blaze. As is is a Psychic shooting attack, it can be cast on the turn he disembarks, and will add more force to the initial DP strike.

True. He definitly needs to do something on the turn he drops. Wether it's to help the Sg to take something out by wounding it or debuffing it. Too bad he can't buff and give an invul or fnp after the drop to help out against the retaliation that comes after!

I'm a bit worried if I don't take any vehicles my friends won't have to spend pts on any anti-armour weaponry at all basically.. Or is that not much of a concern for sm?

@blood ravens addiction: could you clarify why? Your suggestion is completely different from my initial list.
