Marker light can only make you bs 5 idk why so many people think you can get all the way to bs 10. I ran i to this many times and that how i understand how they work. Also why do people think if you spens just 2marker lights on one unit it loses cover for a hole round. i ran in to this at last trouny i went to .

Because the codex say you can spend two to ignore cover and it also allows it to go over BS5.

Despite some problems with reading your post, there are no limits imposed on a BS 'ceiling' though increasing to 10 would be wasteful in my opinion.
As for ignoring cover 2 markers applies only to the unit that you choose to 'spend' the counters on.
Does this thread serve a purpose?

Wow really?
You hate tau because they can bump BS up to 10 at the cost of at least 7 other models that cost the Tau player 77 or 98 points.
So Tau have increase BS options that act similarly to psyker powers for a cost, and each light costs an gun that can actually do damage.

It seem they have units that only have markerlight and ther hole point is to swap a unit with 10markerlights that take away cover and make you bs 10

If you are talking about Drone squads, they are around 140 for 10 and only have BS2, good luck getting enough hits with that!

BS10 is also really crappy, you don't want that.
The points you spend on all those ML-units would be better used on a commander with CnC.
Just give them 2 ML's and use the CnC, that makes it equal to BS10.

You are also forgetting that you can only use a ML once per unit.

Seriously, what is the purpose of this thread?
You should really reread the codex.
Tau Empire are incredibly strong, but you are really making no sense.

so this is a complain-about-tau thread? i see, so you're not asking for critiques on your playstyle, or tactics on how to beat them, nor have you even asked a question or (apparently) bothered to read their codex before making claims about what it can and can't do.

do i correctly assume then that this thread has little to no purpose?

My point was i thought tau could be only bs5. but no i understand they can be any bs they want even bs 30 now i understand why people hate tau . at first i thought people where cheating me with all the bs 10 shooting and being able to ingore covers on a unit for a hole trun feels like cheating but i guess tau are the new op army still only eldra more op

1. They cannot take it above BS10
2. Taking it over BS5 is really bad.
3. They spend way too much units on Markerlights.

You should consider yourself lucky that they spend 7 ML's to make ONE unit BS10.
They could have used 8 ML's to make 4 units BS5 and you'd have a bigger problem.

How is bs 10 a bad thing that to me is more scare theb bs 5For 4units

Let's take Fire Warriors for example, groups of 12 in Rapid Fire range (24 shots) and see the hits with 8 ML's.
(One group is BS4 since you have one ML left).
2x BS3: 24 hits
1x BS4: 16 hits
1x BS10: 23.33 hits
Total: 63.33 hits

4x BS5: 80 hits
Total: 80 hits

So which one is scarier again?

Does this remind anyone else of frogy27 or whatever the name was? Illegible posts on random points which were almost always incorrect/misunderstood?

How does bs 10 give you so few hits when you can rerole misses

You should check the rulebook on just how it allows you to reroll misses, and then do the maths (or just see the maths above) that shows how a lot of hitting-on-2s is better than one hitting-on-2s-with-rerolls-and-lots-of-hitting-on-4s

It's better for three units to be 83% accurate than to have one unit at 91% accuracy. See how the accuracy percentage goes up only 8% from BS5 to BS10? That's why it's terrible.
three squads of ten.
squad 1 gets BS10 and 9 hits
2, gets 5 hits for BS3
3, gets 5 hits for BS3
or
Squad 1, 2, & 3 gets BS5 for 8 hits each.
So first scenario gets about 19 hits, while scenario two gets 24 hits.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

Kandogo is saying your tau opponent is not being very efficient with his markerlights.

He can either make 1 unit hit with basically all their shots (hence the 23.33/24 shots) or most of their shots (BS 5 would be 20/24 shots) so more units hitting at most of their shots is better than one at all of their shots.

And the ignores cover from spending 2 markerlights is only for 1 units shooting at a target, not every unit shooting at the target

Unless it's a Riptide, anything over BS 5 is wasteful. Hell even on the riptide going over bs6 is wasteful.

IIRC, doesn't the Archon have like BS7 standard or something to that effect?

Ant the point of taking 3squads of pathefinders is for markerlights as they have no guns just markerlights

I fail to see how BS 10 is even advantegous in any if not all situations besides the Riptide, but that's an OP piece of crap anyway, so I'll take that out

Besides that, I'd rather use the markerlights to remove cover...

No, they have guns too.

Note to the reader: my username is not arrogance. No, my name is taken from the most excellent of commanders: Lord Castellan Creed, of the Imperial Guar- I mean Astra Militarum - who has a special rule known only as "Tactical Genius"... Although nowhere near as awesome as before, it now allows some cool stuff for the Guar- Astra Militarum - player. FEAR ME AND MY TWO WARLORD TRAITS.

They DO have guns.
But you really don't want to take that many, it's overkill.

Does it matter?
He is still spending way too many points to give one squad BS10, which is a bad thing to do.

And please, please, please! Can you fix the typing because it's really hard to understand what you are trying to say.

While pathfinders do have guns, I think the only time I've ever used them (barring overwatch) was my first Tau game back in 4th when I didn't understand why everyone said I needed a squad of pathfinders. I kept thinking "Why the hell do I need these expensive Carbine guys? I could buy more Fire Warriors instead of them." Then I learned the Magic of Markerlights in the following game.
