I've been tinkering with a custom character for my Ork army and have been struggling to determine the right point value to use for him. The character itself is an add-on to a Stormboy unit, similar to Zagstruk which is sort of the base I sort of used to start working on point values. Basically took Zagstruk at his 85 point value and then looked at what I was taking away and what I was adding. Granted he's not exactly meant to be super competitive or anything like that. The character's abilities are more for RP-like flavor while still trying to be useful. The character itself is outline below:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Baron Von Boomdakka

WS-5, BS-2, S-4, T-4. W-2, I-3. A-4, Ld-9, Sv+4

Wargear: Stormboy Rokkit Pack, Stikkbomz, Boss Pole, 'eavy Armour, Power Klaw, Slugga

Special Rules: Mob Rule, Furious Charge, Waaagh!

The Blitz Boys: Boomdakka can be taken in place of a Nob in a Stormboy unit. His unit must enter battle via deep strike.

Scouted Landing: Boomdakka is a self proclaimed tactical genius. As such he does not always charge headlong and completely recklessly into the enemy. When he is feeling particularly "strategic" he elects to send a handful of his boyz out to scout a safe landing zone. Once they jump, he merely needs to follow the smoke trail that does not end in fiery wreckage and aim there...or if all of them do he needs to aim somewhere else. When making their entry via deep strike you may choose to sacrifice d3 models in the unit, removing them as casualties. If you do, the unit does not scatter. (If that's too broken I might just make it that you can re-roll the Deep Strike scatter, usable only once)

Swoop Attack (just like Zagsruk's): Other times Boomdakka prefers to eschew the more strategic and safe approach and instead turn his unit into something of a living, screaming, arm flailing projectile. When entering battle via deep strike, and if Scouted Landing was not used, Boomdakka's unit may assault the turn it comes into play. They may not shoot that turn, however. If you choose to assault the turn it enters play, remove d3 models from the unit as crash landing casualties.

Parley (aka: If I can't have one, no one can): As a former Blood Axe, Boomdakka is not above parlaying with the enemy to try and leverage the situation into his favor. Of course if the enemy doesn't accept his terms then he will simply smash everything involved in the negotiation so that no one gets what they want. After Warlord traits are rolled but before the start of the first turn you may choose to activate Boomdakka's Parlay. If the opponent accepts the parlay, all players re-roll their warlord trait. If the opponent does not accept, no warlord traits may be used for that game. If playing a game with more than two players, all players must accept for the re-roll to take effect. This special rule cannot be used if any players are using HQ units that automatically come with warlord traits (such as Shadowsun with her 'A Ghost Who Walks Among Us' trait)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At this point I'm trying to determine the point values for this. Zagstruk himself is 85 points. Boomdakka's base stats are more or less the same. Bookdakka does not have the cybork body that Zagstruk has. He also does not have the Vulture's Klaws special rule, instead just having a normal Power Klaw. He also does not have the Violent Temper special rule and instead has a normal Boss Pole. The only big addition to the character is the Scouted Landing special rule to give you the option to be either strategic and pinpoint your landing or go for broke and use the Swoop Attack instead. Granted I'm not even really sure if the Parley rule is all that useful but it's there as something fun to add some flavor to the character and because there's nothing quite like fighting with your opponent before the game even begins.

So there it is. I'm not quite sure how to rate the point value here. Originally I was trying to shoot for making him still be worth 85, making sure that for everything I added I also took something away. However, I'm not sure if having both Scouted Landing and Swoop Attack might be too much to keep it at that level. The Parlay rule I'm honestly not sure at all how to score point-wise. Wasn't sure if anyone had any ideas on this, but any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Once I have the model painted I'll have to post it as well.

Oh totally, he's exactly on par with the likes of Abaddon, Draigo and Calgar.

Totally.

/Sarcasm

He's not that much, though the whole denying warlord traits is a little much.

You can make parley something along the lines of re-deploying D3 units if you win a roll off against your opponent. Then he'd be...errr...I dunno, 100pts thereabouts.

I really like the idea for Parlay allowing to re-deploy units. Hadn't thought of that. Could be really satisfying to see an opponent deploy a big counter strategy to how I set up and then win the parlay roll and re-deploy those d3 units to completely mess with his setup. I'm gonna play test that and see how it works out. Many thanks for the input.
