Hi what do you think of my 750 point Blood Angels starter army list?

125 - Librarian - JP

090 - Sanguinary Priest - JP PS
090 - Sanguinary Priest - JP PS

225 - Assault Squad (10) - PS, 2x MG
225 - Assault Squad (10) - PS, 2x MG

755 - Total Points

Is this a good base to an army and what would you add to it to expand to 1000 points? Stormraven....? Sanguinary Guard.....? Predators...?
All feedback much appreciated - Thanks

I'd drop the swords on the priests, as you don't really want them in CC if possible. Other than that, 2x ASM is pretty useful, and the MG+DOA will allow you to reliably drop tanks when you DS. As for expanding, a SR would be great if you expect to face fliers, but if not, you'd be better served with more guys of some kind, whether that's some DP tacs or more ASM. BA suffer more than most marine armies from a hideously low body count, and although FNP is nice to help deal with this, it is still a major weakness.

Also, is this an alternative to your planned RG army, or an alternative? As if it comes to a choice between the two, I'd suggest you go with the SM list, as they are getting a new codex which looks really good, whereas the BA are really not the best codex at the moment.

Ok thanks, yeah I'm trying to get a few solid lists down to have a look at atm. I totally agree the ba codex makes fluff armies very expensive. Both Rg and ba have great fluff, ba do have a more in depth background. The main thing is that with ba the assault marines with sg wings look amazing. I got the idea for this army list from jawaball's "blood angel 500+" video, (google it if you have the time). When is the ba codex expected to be updated? Not for a while?

There's nothing on the radar for BA so far, so I'm guessing late 2014/early 15. RG do have some pretty good fluff if you look into the Horus Heresy stuff. And to be honest, there's nothing to stop you using both sets of rules for RG, I can't see anyone complaining. That way, you can vary your lists a bit more and have more variety, and as far as modelling goes, some RG-themed SG/Vanguard vets would look epic!

Haveing PS on WS5 priest's in ASM is really good.

A dread in a drop pod would be nice and depending on what you want to do with your Libby you can give him an honor guard(gives him FNP and extra PW attacks).

I have no idea what I'm doing...

Yes an honour guard woulbe be quite cool... Or trade it all in for Mephiston...

Yeah I'll will be looking into both Rg and ba fluff. Atm it seems as if the Rg are the collected calculating chapter where ba is a crazed chapter full of the insane charging space marines. Either would be good ba probably look better with red rather than just black... Can decide until I see one of each painted side by side...

RG are more of sneaky sneaky chapter, they like to strike from the shadow's and things of that nature. BA isn't all insane charging space marines we just want to hit you REALLY hard REALLY badly.

250 - Mephistion
150 - Sanguinary Priest x2
225 - Assault Squad
225 - Assault Squad
150 - Attack Bikes (multi-meltas)

Mephiston is nasty in small games, I've had him take apart entire armies providing the enemy didn't bring TEQ.

That actually looks pretty good for a fun list. Just keep mephiston away from termies and plasma, as they will take him down due to lack of invuln. Just remember he can't join a squad, so keep him hidden until you charge, and roll on biomancy chart for the chance of buffing his already-crazy stats even higher.

Or stay in with his codex powers - the psychic jump pack can really take people by surprise. He's a pain to keep away from your squishy stuff then.

Spooky jump pack FTW!

Its because ordinance is still a word.
However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.
Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives.

Yeah, codex powers can work, l just think the chance of S/T 9 makes him almost unkillable. That said, the 'JP' does help mobility with a fast list and gets him into combat faster, and S10 from Sanguine sword is good.

Cool, sounds promising :p I was thinking of grouping all the models together as one mass. Mephy in the centre would get a cover save...?

Two quick questions...
a) How far can bikes in a squad be away from each other and would it be better to have them in a group or seperate?

b) if there are two priest fNP bubbles affecting a squad does this change anything?

Thanks

The bikes are probably best separate (2" for coherency) so long as you keep themselves safe until one side or the other scores FB, as otherwise they will give that easily.

2 priests hitting a squad makes no difference unfortunately, but does allow you to lose one and still keep the FNP. As for keeping them as a group, then just make sure you don't bunch them up, as there are a lot of large blasts out there that will strip your FNP and save.

Ok thanks, that helps a lot. As for cover saving mephy?
It looks like a fun list just to play down at my flgs.
I will try and proxy it next week and see how it goes

Mephy should get a cover save, or even be blocked from LOS entirely by the unit in front, so that shouldn't be an issue. Good luck with the testing.
