When 6th ed first came out I swear I read that you dont get cover saves granted by area terrain when taking wounds from overwatch. Since then Ive had it come up multiple times and cant find the rule anywhere. Is this something I made up or is this actually a thing? ...Maybe I'm crazy

You always get cover saves against attacks unless the attack specifically says no cover saves (such as cc attacks, or template weapons).

if hes playing Tau maybe you should think about why you and him are friends
anyways. if you are out of the rune. they are in the rune they charge you and you over watch they still get the 4+ because shots were fired befor they get to roll there charge distance.

Tau is fun! just the bad kind of fun! if your playing tau and caring about pointless rules your doing it wrong!

The way it works is - you perform Overwatch before you actually move any of the charging models - it's then performed as a standard Shooting attack. There are a couple of exceptions, like Snap Shot and Wall of Death, but these don't affect cover.

Wall of Death does effect cover. It's coming from a template weapon don't forget...
