ever wanted to battle giant Kaiju and see if you can survive the onslaught,
well here is a game for you and your family. Utilize Tanks, and Helicopters to battle Kaiju and rescue any survivors you find.
I am pledged at the $1 level at the moment wanting to wait and see what happens with the stretch goals [or Over funding as the creator keeps on calling them] there are 19 additional monsters set up as goals and maybe even having the Tank/Helicopter standees replaced with miniatures. The creator is currently getting some quotes on what he should expect if he goes down this avenue.
the sweet spot pledge level is the Rampager [$100USD] but with a $60USD p&p only those living in the US would pledge for this. I will most likely up my pledge to the Smasher level [base game for $35USD+$20USD p&p] but with 35 days still to go I can wait.
Though there are only 97 of 300 Rampager slots and once they go the pledge level for Rampager #2 will be $125USD+$60USDp&p.
might pledge for one at that level and I can always change my mind. I am wanting this game for my kids and me as well. We play a lot of Board games now and they really enjoy it.
I get that feeling to but a more simplified version and with a lot more human action going on. there is talk of making it Kaiju Vs Kaiju. When those rules are released then it enters into more of a Monsterpocalypse type game.
19 monsters planed that would take the game to at least $500k I for one think that might be to high. The Creator has mentioned he is investigating the price it would take to replace the standees with minis but I wouldn't see that being offered until they hit well over $500k... if not higher. could it get that high hard to say. Those living in the U.S get a huge deal on the Rampager $100USD for everything while those who are international have to pay $160USD [which is quite expensive for a board game with no Minis]
I am watching this game as it would be great for my kids and me to play but I am willing to walk away if I have to or get the basic game box for giggles.
$100 can get you an awful lot of Monsterpocalypse stuff if you shop around. Yeah, it's kinda dead, but most product is still floating around (in bargain bins)
The old meta is dead and the new meta struggles to be born. Now is the time of munchkins.
Reading through the rules it's a lot more flexible game than Monsterpocalypse (which was naturally my first comparison as well). You have to keep your city in one piece but ALSO try to save as many survivors as possible.
For the most part, it's humans vs. monster. You can also play head to head monster vs. humans, and they'll add rules for multiple monsters vs humans, and monsters fighting monsters a la Monpoc.
Cost *IS* high, but then consider that EVERY monster ends up coming with extra materials- various tokens, card decks, more counters, stuff like that. Enough to justify the extra $25 per expansion? I don't think so personally, but when all those add ons start piling up I think it will be worth it then.
For example, the octopus comes with a bunch of counters for tentacles and holes he makes in the streets. I would imagine that UFO mothership will have tokens of some sort for the drones it sends out. Paul Bunyan and Babe will probably have separate standees for each of them. I'm imagining that some of the monsters might end up being bundled together as well (like maybe the 60k goal) if they don't require tons of extra materials.
I see this being a LOT more accessible as a family game than MonPoc. My kids got overwhelmed with all the icons on options. Rules are much more straightforward, wit more options to change things up and improve replayability.
I'll be satisfied if we end up with at least 4 or 5 more monsters to add to the mix. 19 more? Even better.
Hope they can work out shipping for Europe to bring in more backers.
Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!
This does look like fun, but international shipping looks brutal. I'll keep an eye on this one and maybe have it shipped to a relative in the US and pick it up on my next trip back...
This thread is just reminding me how AWESOME Monsterpocalypse was. I can't wait till PP regains the rights to that IP next year. I'm hopeful they'll relaunch the game. It would be an amazing addition to their product line, and deserves a spot a million times more than turds like Level 7.
Yeah, that was my feeling... I dunno, that prototype set didn't seem very carefully put together (looks about what I'd have done with a paper kit in elementary school...) for publicity like that, but other people seem to be willing to ignore craftsmanship and materials, so more power to them...

It was mentioned that the monsters are going to be like the cardboard in Fearsome Floors- I don't know if you guys are familiar with it. The figures are 3 dimensional cut outs.
Here's a picture of one of them. We'll see if that's how they turn out.
I tried pasting the image in my reply but it doesn't seem to want to cooperate for me, so you're stuck with a link.
The game Rampage is actually totally different, but looks like a lot of fun too.
I guess the plan is after all the early bird slots run out, a new run of them will come in at a further $25 increase, and continuing on up, topping off at $200. I would imagine at that point it's going to be a tough sell for people if that box isn't brimming with stuff.
I hope to see some concepts/ mock ups for what the supposed miniatures might end up looking like.
That $25 per monster expansion is just killer though. Those expansions better be packed to the gills with extra pieces, because that is far more than I would be willing to pay for a single monster.

Question for ya: Overfund structure shift?
Update #2 · Aug 26, 2013 · 24 comments
Io backers,
I have a question for you. A few people made the suggestion of doubling up monsters in each box. I hadn't thought of that while planning the campaign, so I checked into the math.
Pairing a 'lite monster' (monster with just standees and cards for the core concept) with a 'heavy monster' (monster with LOTS of extra bits) allows it to be $30 for two monsters. The price shift comes from: two monsters sharing one box (boxes are irritatingly expensive in smaller quantity runs) & the monsters being able to share cut sheets instead of there potentially being wasted space. The extras that were planned for bringing the 'lite monsters' to a $25 value would be released later either as add-ins or an expansion.
Assuming for a moment only paired monster expansions were in the campaign, that would make for 8 unlocks and 16 monsters total. The final total for full unlock would be $144,000. (...and you'd be getting two more monsters RIGHT NOW since we've already had two unlocks).
The main upside to this is full unlock would be likely to hit at the current rate of about $5K per day. Also, expansions would still be $25 to add in to a backing level (or at the CRUSHER and BRUISER levels).
A downside is this lowers the final retail value of everything to $275 plus add-ins. Is that a concern for you RAMPAGER backers?
Thanks for your thoughts, backers. In the meantime, I'm finalizing the rules draft for the Chomp, Space, and Plant monsters.
Rulesets, Overfunds, and International Shipping
Update #3 · Aug 27, 2013 · 13 comments
Io Smashers,
It's been a hectic couple days as I've checked, rechecked, and triple checked various maths and getting rulesets ready for ya. First off, the monster Double Feature Packs (thanks to backer Douglas Grinn the name... ) are GO! Which means you folks have actually unlocked FOUR monsters! Here they are along with their rulesets!
...I'll have the Plant/Bunny, Snowman/Paul Bunyan, Goo/Genie, Swarm/Crab, and Crystal/Dragon rules for you by Friday at the latest.
Next up: overfund structure. The increasing jumps between levels from before was due to shipping getting more and more expensive as more stuff unlocked ($60 domestically and $120 internationally at full unlock). Thanks to a suggestion by backer Matt Stone, I did some poking around to see if I could drop the remaining overfund jumps to just $10K per monster Double Feature.
I discovered that if the expansions were boxed correctly in a 6"x6"x1.5" box each, the 8 expansions, the base game, and all the add-ins would fit into a USPS Large Flat Rate box. The price difference? $17 domestic, $78 international. OH SNAPS!
SO! This has two effects:
First, every overfund after the $60K Plant/Bunny level will only go up by $10K to be unlocked. (That means FULL UNLOCK at $100K.) It'll look like this:
$60K for Plant/Bunny Forest Fright Double Feature
$70K for Snowman/Myth Northern Lights Double Feature
$80K for Goo/Genie Amorphous Monster Double Feature
$90K for Swarm/Crab Creepie Crawlie Double Feature
$100K for Crystal/Dragon Double Feature
Second, International shipping for the RAMPAGER, HERO, SURVIVOR, and MAGNATE levels drops considerably. I'm willing to pay half if you are; $39 for international shipping. (To lower it, go in and manage your pledge to say yer from the US and add $39 to yer backing amount.) Future RAMPAGER levels will have the amount properly set for international shipping.
Sweet Sassafras! You think we can hit $100K? I think we can hit $100K. Help spread the word and lets unlock the rest of these monsters!
Third, here's the artwork for the Role cards. HERO backers: there will be an extra set of cards in each copy of the game with your likeness as one of the roles.
Lastly, lets start getting some outreach rockin'! Could you do either (or both) of the following super quick by following the links below?
Outreach is gonna be one of the key ways we continue to hit overfunds as we continue through the remaining four weeks of the project. We'll do a thumb drive on a few pics of the 'geek later this week to get onto the hotness, as well. (Tell yer friends about the project, too!)
Thanks for helpin' us get this far, everyone! Lets unlock more monsters!
Best, Phil

Mini-update: Computer is completely dead; full update tonight
Update #6 · Sep 11, 2013 · comment
Io Smashers,
Turns out my computer's motherboard was also dead; the technicians didn't notify me of this until later yesterday. I'll be getting a new computer tonight and will update with:
Completed monster sketches
The updated artwork for the helicopter and tank
Updated Smash Monster artwork
Best,
Phil
Still struggling with staying in on this one...
What with Wrath of Kings ending soon, and the butcher's bill yet to be paid on Deadzone!
Communication seems to have dropped off on this one.
I know the project manager was saying he was having serious computer problems, but this thing isn't getting much movement now.
I'd like to see more monsters get added, but it's starting to look doubtful, even with the doubling up of stretch goals.
Hope they can pull it together.
The big deciding factor for me is what the actual figures are going to look like. Having cardboard figures makes me worried, what with clumsy kids and parents with potato fingers. Will they be able to survive the abuse a lot of my plastic minis take?
Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!
I was keen to get into this from the first when he had single monster stretch goals but after looking at it I to worried about the quality of the card as my Son will wreck a plastic toy inn 60 seconds card well...
So that's why I walked away from it now if they had done this game with plastic minis then I would have be in with a grin for sure....
all I can say is good luck hopefully he will get his computer sorted before it ends..
Apologies on the silence; I've been without a computer since my previous one went down last week. I now have a new machine, so I'll be in regular contact with everyone again.
Firstly, lets have a look at some sketches for Smash Monster Rampage!
Atomic Charge, Mega Atomic Blast, Atomic Rage, Fire Storm
Atomic Roar, Atomic Rampage, Fire Crew, Fireball Counter Attack
Fly Swat, Direct Hit, Critical Hit, Mission Accomplished
Secondly, people have been concerned about the components of the game. The components will be of high-quality pressboard the same as Jungle Ascent. Here's a few comments from backers of that project:
"Game looks superb, excelent components and graphics."-Marian Bohacik
"Components look nice and sturdy "-Anders H. Pedersen
"I'm astounded by the quality!! This is the best quality KS game I have gotten so far out of 4, and it was the cheapest!"-Jeremy Hope
Smash Monster Rampage will be made with the same company, and will be solidly made.
Thirdly, a quick comment re: minis, as well. I'd like to share the full costs associated with minis from a purely production standpoint.
Each miniature would be $1000 to get modeled. With three minis in the base game (tank, heli, survivor), that's $3000.
Each mold would be $2500. That's $7500 on the molds.
Each set (six helis, six tanks, 8 survivors) would be $3 per set at 5000 sets. (5000 sets would allow for economies of scale to carry to future print runs.) $15,000, or $25,500 with the mold fees and modeling costs.
Even as an overfund bonus, it would push the cost of the base game to about $50 after the campaign was finished. That's just too high for what the game is, even with plastic in the box.
I'm not ruling out minis in the future (which would be offered as a standalone pak were they to be done for people who already have the game), they're just not in this campaign's budget for the scale of production planned for this first print run.
We still have two and a half weeks to go, and close to 500 backers. I have a thumb drive planned for Board Game Geek once a few inked pieces come in (which greatly raises awareness of the campaign by pushing the game into its "Top 50" list), additional advertising I'll be doing through the end of the campaign, and a few other things I'm working on, as well.
We also can't forget the final three days, either; in Baldrick's Tomb, we did $10k in those 3 days and there was only one overfund really being chased. We have *five*. We can get at least two more unlocked by campaign's end, if not moreso. >: D
Strange Allure, Otherworldly Push, Face of Madness, Cosmic Flash
Banishment, Direct Hit, Critical Hit, Mission Accomplished
Nextly, we also have a few finished pieces from the Smash Monster, including how the Smash Monster will look!
Mission Accomplished
Critical Hit
Thirdly, we made some demo videos showing how each monster up through Plant and Hop work for ya:
Crush / Cosmic
Spider / Chomp
Space / Mecha
Plant / Hop
Fourthly, we'll be running a thumb rush later this week to get Smash Monster Rampage onto 'The Hotness' of Board Game Geek, a list of games seeing a lot of onsite activity. We've just been waiting for a few more finished pieces, and now we have 'em!
Getting onto The Hotness help people who don't poke around on the 'Geek too much see the project and join in on backing the game. We've done this on previous campaigns, and it really helped in bringing new backers in on the fun. We'll have an update on what you can do to help later this week.
Lastly, we're still searching for a solid $50K overfund. The main problem has been that potential overfunds have been too expensive, eating into the funds needed to make the Plant Monster at $60K. We're still searching, though, and will update you fine folks immediately should we find one.
Lets rock Smash Monster Rampage into The Hotness on Board Game Geek! (The Hotness is a list on Board Game Geek showing games with lots of activity, and increases game exposure.)
If you'd be so kind as to click through and 'thumb' these photos:
That will help in both generating activity on Smash Monster Rampage's page AND in getting the photos onto the front page, too (which will *also* help get Smash Monster Rampage onto The Hotness.)
Also! The $50K overfund will now include a bonus set of 8 Survivors that everyone getting a copy of Smash Monster Rampage will receive!
There ya have it, folks! Thanks for your help in getting onto The Hotness!
Best,
Phil
Unfortunately, this one is starting to slip a bit...
I don't think it will pull a full on THON, but there's no way everything is getting unlocked, unfortunately.
A shame this one seems to be on the downward spiral. Game looks like a lot of fun.
However I am NOT a fan of that laser cut wooden figure. Hopefully the cardboard one looks better. As it stands (or sits), it looks like he's pulling a deuce on top of the city!
Funny to see I'm not the only one having THON flashbacks... whatever happened to that? Wasn't he going to give it another go at some point?

ALL monsters available at RAMPAGER level!! Update #11 · Sep 23, 2013 · 3 comments
Io Smashers,
You read that title right: as of right now, all 16 bonus monsters will be included in RAMPAGER, HERO, SURVIVOR, and MAGNATE copies!
How that's possible as opposed to them needing to be unlocked, once again, comes down to getting rid of boxes. Instead of having each double-feature monster set having its own box, we're going to put everything into one HUGE Kickstarter Edition box. This allows us to lower production (and shipping costs to our warehouse) by enough to give 'em all to ya now!
Backers at SMASHER tier or any tier with expansions of your choice will get a standard edition of the game. Any expansions chosen will be hand-punched and packed for you.
This also affects overfunds from here on out. Starting at $50K, overfunds will be more stuffs like extra survivors, bonus boards, roles, and more that EVERYONE gets.
$50K is tweaked a bit: a set of survivors and a bonus board layout (instead of a laser-etched monster) $60K: Building Modifiers: Building toppers (like radar dishes, antennas, etc) that will give the players a bonus for as long as the building stands $70K: ??? (No, really. What would you folks like to see at $70K?)
AND! We also have some sweet, sweet art for ya:
If you'd be so kind as to thumb and comment on these pics on Board Game Geek, it'll help get us onto The Hotness list.
$70K overfund decided: Airstrike Track! Also, an AMA on reddit tomorrow!
Update #12 · Sep 24, 2013 · comment
Io Smashers,
The $70K overfund has been decided: the Airstrike Track!
The Airstrike Track will give an added option for your kept Monster Hit cards. You can discard a card to increase the track one space. When the track is full, an automatic hit can be done to the monster! Of course this drains the track to zero, but you can just fill it again...
We're still thinkin' and lookin' for overfunds at $80K and above, so keep sharin' your suggestions. We're wantin' to focus more on player-centric stuffs for the rest of the run (the building toppers, survivors, etc), so fire away!
ALSO! We're back on upward footing, too! We did $3K yesterday, and are on track for $1 - 2K today. Can you help us keep the momentum going by going to Kicktraq and sharing the page through Facebook, Twitter, or Google Plus? You can do so right here: http://www.kicktraq.com/projects/5thstreetgames/smash-monster-rampage/
More eyes seein' the project means more people joinin' in on the fun and MOAR OVERFUNDS FOR YOU!
Also, I'll be doin' an AMA on Reddit tomorrow around Noon MST. Come say 'hi' and ask me whatever!
Best,
Phil
And it looks like the 'all monsters at Rampager and above' change helped out:
