So I understand that the Emperor is incapacitated on his golden throne, but what of the loyal primarchs. Have they taken up the role of leadership or did they all die in the war?

Horus, Condrad curze and (maybe) Alpharius are the only traitors dead

Sanguinus was killed by horus in the heresy, Ferrus Manus was beheaded by Fulgrim, Khan got lost chasing some dark eldar in webway, Corax went missing at the drop site massacre, Johnson got sucked into the warp and spat out again and is currently being healed by some creepy midgets in the rock (no-one knows he is there), Russ went into the warp in shame, Dorn died in a suicidal attack on a chaos warship, Roboute got poisoned by Fulgrim by a poison that was so bad if he is ever let out stasis he will die with some zealots that believe that the worship aimed at him is healing him, Vulkan told his chapter they weren't yet worthy of him and gave them a task of finding 9 relics before he would come back and they have so far found 5 (I think).

Hope this sums up their fates well!

**Alpharius**

In the 'old' background it was pretty much a given that Alpharius was not, in fact dead.

In the new background - it remains to be seen what happens!

I thought his twin brother, Omegon, was implied to have taken over?

Oh yeah, that's another point. Alpharius Omegon are heavily hinted to still be loyal, as not only aare they the only living primarchs not to be recorded as daemon princes but there was a book about it.

Firstly some of the Primarchs are arses, I mean what was Vulcan doing, humanity is dying and he buggers off and says that he won't come back until his chapter complete a treasure trail when they obviously have more important things to be doing.

I thought that either Alpharius or Omegon was killed by Guilliman but because their identical we don't know which.
Also I thought that Corax went bonkers after drop site massacre and also went into the Eye of Terror like Russ.
What is wrong with these guys their super human badasses who make stu[pid decisions and then can't humanity.
One walked into the warp, two went on suicide missions to the Eye of Terror, ones playing hide and seek, another went on a suicide mission chasing dark elder down a 'elder only or you'll be lost forever web way portal', one was exhausted after a bloodthirster battle but decided to take on over powered Horus anyway. Their useless at decisions, still take a look at the over trusting sentimental Emperor and they look like geniuses.

Also the traitor Primarchs are idiots too, firstly they all got converted to Chaos over depression, anger issues and daddy issues. Secondly their mostly alive and active when their greatest rivals have all popped off and yet they sit in the Eye of Terror killing each other. Replace Abbaddon with even one of the Chaos Primarchs and the Imperium would fall easy peasy.

Vulkan went missing in an explosion at the dropsite massacre, and at that time was missing presumed dead. I havent read Vulkan Lives yet, so I dont know if that clears things up, but I dont believe the choice to vanish was made by him. I could be wrong though.

Wasn't Vulkan present for the codes adoption debate? I'm pretty sure they split Russ, Dorn, Vulkan vs Khan, Corax, Guilliman. So he must have returned for that little talk and then gone missing at a later point again.

Russ didn't go to the Warp in shame! He went there of his own accord and if rumors were to be true he went in there hunting for the only pure source of Warp Energy that isn't corrupted(The Tree of Life) to use so he can bring the Emperor back. Now again if rumors were true he went in there to go get The Lion since people think he got sucked in there. Others say he went in there after Magnus. All these questions....with Magnus being the only one who knows. Fulgrim is off being Fulgrim at this point, that little slice of slaaneshy heaven that his sons have that people want. Angron still angry as ever. Papa Smurf sleeping at his planet like a bastard. The Lion sleeping like King Arthur. Vulkan is off hiding and doing stuff. Khan is off in the Web Ways driving around(maybe going to the Star Trek world :p joking). Don't know about the twins though...one mite be dead...never could be sure with those two. But yeah theses guys tend to make dumb moves. Also Cruz allowed an assassin to kill him I think if I read his dialog right to her, but no body was shown or proof of him dying was shown so he could just as easily be alive.

That has since been debunked in Blood Reaver by Aaron Dembski-Bowden, where there's at least one chapter devoted to a flashback of a few hours immediately after Curze's death, partly told from the perspective of M'shen, the assassin, where she describes the act of cutting off his head, and spends most of the chapter carrying it back to her ship as a trophy and proof of the deed. There's also a part where it describes how several captains and chosen of the Night Lords discovered some of their Primarch's relics were missing from his corpse.

Don't mislead for fun.

Johnson was beaten down and nearly killed by Luther before Luther saw the error of his ways. He is fully healed and in suspended animation until the Emperor calls on him.
