The correct answer is "don't play grey knights". What you should do with that $300 is make a taudar army instead.

Grey knights, at the moment, require some amount of thought and skill to play. Thus you will lose more games with them. Thus they're the wrong army for you.

If you insist on spending that money on GK and nothing else, then I'd highly suggest a change in your attitude towards what you're looking for in an army, as the two are going to be so grossly incompatable that one of the two is going to give out to the other, or you're going to ragequit 40k altogether.

I guess it depends on the tourneys, right?

At large GTs, GKs have a hard time. They can do fine at a local RTT. It all depends on your local meta.

I've enjoyed some success with my hybrid Draigowing but I agree with many of the above posters. They are a difficult army to win with in the tourney setting if you only have $300 to spend. However, I don't know of any build that is going to rock a tournament with that kind of budget. The most competitive builds I've heard of are either henchmen or strike squad spams.

Personally I love my Dreadknights and Interceptors. If you play aggressively and pry open a weak flank early you can stumble a good amount of TAC lists. It must also be said that some armies just bring too much for you to deal with due to your low model count. Also, dice luck plays a huge part. I was playing an ork list last weak that I was stomping for the first two turns until I rolled all ones for one of my dreadknights saves. Ended up losing me the game. In short GK are an extremely fun army to play but they are one that rely heavily on match ups, luck, and skill. So if you're looking for an "OMG I have GK so let's just call it a win turn 3" army than I'd keep looking.
