Does anyone have any examples of Gothic looking Imperial Guard miniatures, or just Gothic looking miniatures that could work well as Guardsmen? Cadians look okay on their own, but they don't really fit the 40k aesthetic well.

Planing a IG army are we? Well I would maybe look into Vostyran firstborn? I dunno if they look gotich enough but I think they would fit if you made some minor conversions. Swap some heads and some weapons.

I tend to agree, the Imperial Guard has never been very "40,000 years in the future" looking to me. Cadian's would look at home on a WW2 battlefield and Catachan units look like they were made on the Rambo set.
Don't get me wrong, I like the Imperial Guard....but for me aesthetically the only way to go with IG is with Death Korps of Kreig.

I really like the Cadian designs per se, but at the same time I agree that they look "almost boringly" contemporary/standard considering the setting.
Have you considered Valhallans, Steel Legion or Mordians?
Nothing says "life is cheap" than a Valhallan army, Steel Legion looks somewhat steampunk, and Mordians would be perfect for a "Dune-verse" style Feudal-Imperial army.
If you fancy some cyberpunk, you could also go and plunder the Necromunda selection. The 3E Codex had a page with lots of ideas how an IG regiment could look, tapping into a whole lot of Citadel minis including even WHFB ones (though those would obviously require a bit of conversion, given WYSIWYG).

If you're not planning on playing in a GW store/in lots of tournaments, I might recommend the greatcoat troopers from wargames factory:

Look plenty gothic enough for me, look allot like steel legion (I made a brotherhood of nod themed IG army out of them).

Thanks for the replies.
If only Vostroyan Firstborn weren't metal. Otherwise I might have the time to saw their stupid heads off and replace them with Death Corps/Steel Legion gasmask faces. Then I'd have some pretty good looking miniatures.

I really like the Death Korp of Krieg. They're still quite WWII inspired, but the constant use of gas masks is quite sinister and fits well with 40K IMO.
It would be good to get more GW released models for them rather than all the forge world stuff.

Hell no. If GW releases DKoK in plastic I will cry. The FW resin models are way beyond anything GW has ever done, throwing away all the detail that makes them awesome just to make them cheaper would be a tragic waste.

Yeah, because it would be impossible for GW and FW to make different sculpts of the same model. I mean, what next? FW and GW selling dreadnoughts and immolators? Plus, it's not just a little cheaper when you consider international shipping and the time/hassle that goes along with that.
That being said, you could always wait until we get some info about the 6th ed IG release to see if we'll be getting plastic sculpts for some of the other IG lines.

Why would I want to see DKoK that had all the fine detail removed to make them work with the plastic molds? They'd only be "different" in that one would be an inferior version of the other*. And even if they were the same price and availability of Cadians I'd still have zero interest in them.
*Well, unless GW re-sculpted them with the same awful proportions as the existing plastic IG, which would make them even less appealing.

Yes, quite well actually. In some cases it look better than the weapons in the box (especially special weapons). Normal heads fit pretty well too.

Vostroyans are the most gothic, John Blanche-y miniatures available for IG. They'll break the bank about as bad as Death Korps of Krieg, who are in a similar territory as far as being gothic and grimdark.
I'm personally not a huge fan of the Wargames Factory greatcoat troopers, since their proportions are really wonky, even for "heroic" scale. The sculpting detail is also soft and greasy looking. I don't hate them, but I can't say I like them all that much.

Cadian minis didnt' come out until post Rogue Trader. The earlier IG figs were similar, but not exactly cadian. The vostroyans made a good looking IG army for 40. Cadians and Valhallans just looked too WWII. Tallarn look better as chaos cultist types. Mordians just bugged me always being in dress uniforms. It is just a really silly concept given how the IG is almost constantly at war. Mordians also bugged me becaue in the fluff of an earlier IG codex they became the first IG legion to fight chaos on their home world and not face extermimatus which ticked me off. Catachans just look totally stupid. Only army pricer than vostroyans are the Death Korps of Krieg since they are all Forge World, but those figs are gorgeous indeed. Steel legion were close, but just a little too mundane when compared side to side.
I cursed the day that they started making 28mm british colonials in plastic. Wanted to do a full IG army with them, but they were all *true* 28mm so looked like young teens next to full sized IG figures and the 40k guns were just too big. Victoria miniatures now makes a decent selection of heads and parts to convert such an army these days, but my IG force slot is now filled with a chaos renegades army instead now, so not going to do the colonials themed force anymore.

Yea, I would only recommend them for basic "fodder" units and maybe stormtroopers. Everything else the GW figs are probably the way to go. Im not too perturbed by their exaggerated proportions, the "scale" of GW's figs are so off (especially in regards to space marines and vehicles) I dont really mind the greatcoat troopers too much.

I like the aesthetic of the metal Cadians. The plastic ones are fairly mediocre. Especially the helmets, which only look good with the respirator masks on them.
The rumors are out there of plastic Steel Legion figures on the horizon, but that's nothing more than a rumor. And honestly, I kinda hope it's just a rumor, because I worry they'll ruin what is probably one of their best metal IGuard ranges with an inferior plastic product like they did with the Cadians.
Plus, I hated the fact that the plastic Catachans and Cadians are so bulky and oversized.

Just had a look through the DKOK models on FW again and I can see what you're saying. Still, I would buy plastic versions of them. I won't buy FW ones because of the cost. After all, I don't have to watch blu-ray all the time when DVD is just fine for many films
