Hi,

I am looking to start a GK army and would like to get feedback on the below list at a 1000pts and what I should do to take it up to 1500.

So far, I have only bought some strikes and one of the dreadnoughts.

Coteaz - 100

10 strikes - 245
2 psycannons, psybolt ammo, daemon hammer (justicar)

10 strikes - 245
2 psycannons, psybolt ammo, daemon hammer (justicar)

Dreadnought - 135
Autocannons, psybolt ammo

Dreadnought - 135
Autocannons, psybolt ammo

Ordo Malleus Inquisitor - 110
Terminator armour, psycannon, psyker

7 warrior acolytes (probably deployed as 2 squads) - 28

998

Coteaz and the inquisitor will go with a strike squad each to tank wounds and buff them with divination. The acolytes are there to fill up the 1000 pts. They will start in reserve and grab late game objectives.

Looks good, just one change to make.

Never put a hammer on the justicar. Striking last in a challenge is a good way to end up dead, and having the hammer stuck in a challenge prevents it from doing maximum damage. Justicars should take halbreds to strike first, and the unit can hide a hammer to deal damage for those just in case scenarios.

Foot slogging is a slow way to die as can be deep striking. Note that Corteaz cannot deep strike.

That is a really nice list to start and at 1000p it should be quite effective.^^

To take it up to 1500, I would suggest a squad of terminators (to walk around with your Malleus Inquisitor). Having terminators as troops is something I really like about the Grey Knights. Then it really comes down to what you want to have in your army and which specialists you fancy. Also depends on competitivity in your region and if you rather have a fluffy list or going more for the competitive approach.

run in little circles,
wave your arms and shout." - Litany of Command (parody)

Terminators are nice from a fluffy/figurine point of view but not really competitive (except as paladin/Mordrak)...

I think Daemonhammers on GKSS are 10 points not 5 .. So check your point's again .. As Dr. Serling suggested put the hammer on a regular marine not the Justicar because of the challenges

I think the list lacks mobility .. I would suggest you to go with an Interceptor squad and one DK .. these are like 300+235= 535 points .. If you go with Coteaz then you 'll have henchmen as troops so you don't have to worry about validation of your list or meeting force organization ..

I don't know how is your playstyle but foot slogging GKSS hasn't worked for me like never

Hope that helps !

Actually i think it depends who you face.
Against nids for instance foot slogging can work.
However against TAU, Eldar, IG for instance it clearly is not goind to work (unless as mentionned you get a teleporter DK/interceptor)

that would be leaving him with 2 tiny weenie troops, tha twhen killed, means hes not going to be able to score.

First, this is a good list to start from. If the goal is to add to this list in order to make it to 1500 instead of doing a major rework or failing to field too many of the models that already have, then I'd do something like this. It adds in mobility, and some AA/interceptor/cover which you may need at 1500.

Race to midfield with the two units of GKSS in Rhinos and then GET OUT. The Rhinos can then be used as mobile cover. Coteaz mans the Quadgun and is joined by the GKSS on foot.

Coteaz

GKSSx10, psycannonX2, psybolt, halberd on the Justicar, rhino
GKSSx10, psycannonX2, psybolt, halberd on the Justicar, rhino
GKSSx10, psycannonX2, psybolt
WAx5 with boltguns in R'back, psybolt
WAx5 with boltguns in R'back, psybolt

Psyflemen
Psyflemen

ADL with QG

This leaves 70 points left over (60 if you don't take the halberds in the GKSS. If you keep the hammer, then do NOT put it on the Justicar). With the 70 points, you could do something fun like this:

Psykerx6, WAx2 with boltguns. This gives you S8 AP1 pie plates. Through them behind the ADL. The two WA are there in case the psykers suffer perils and all fall over. Then you at least still have a unit that can run to a backfield objective late game instead of awarding a kill point on a bad roll.

Another option is to only give the psykers 1 WA and use the other 5 points to put a halberd on one of the Justicars in a Rhino

Automatically Appended Next Post:
1500 points, 48-49 models, 4 vehicles, 1 fortification.

Thanks for the feedback guys, this is really great.

@dr.serling - thanks for the tip about the justicar, I'd not realised that

I agree with spectral and wuestenfux that this list's problem is poor mobility. It would also struggle with av14 but hopefully I won't encounter too much of that at 1000pts.

@ninjafiredragon - I also think the strikes are important as tough troops

Taking on board what people I've said I've tried to remedy the mobility problem in the move up to 1500pts. Here's what I have so far:

Coteaz - 100

10 strikes - 245
2 psycannons, psybolt ammo, daemon hammer (NOT justicar)

10 strikes - 245
2 psycannons, psybolt ammo, daemon hammer (NOT justicar)

Dreadnought - 135
Autocannons, psybolt ammo

Dreadnought - 135
Autocannons, psybolt ammo

Ordo Malleus Inquisitor - 110
Terminator armour, psycannon, psyker

7 warrior acolytes (probably deployed as 2 squads) - 28

Dread knight - 235
Teleporter, heavy incinerator

5 interceptors - 150
Incinerator

1383

With the remaining points I could perhaps buy some rhinos for the strikes and beef up the henchmen and give them bolters so they are a bit more useful in a firefight.

@wolfgang7 - I was typing as you wrote this! This is a really nice list and I need the AA. I also own and aegis and quad already so this is appealing. Cheers!

Coteaz makes them troop choices

I make bad decisions and think they are good.
