The "Bloody Hundred" happened because the sector governor decided to gather the sector's military forces around the capital system and leave the rest of the sector to burn.
They may not have been very effective considering that astropathic communication was cut off, but an earlier response could have saved more worlds and brought information to the fleet sooner.

Dispersing forces would have just let the Necrons destroy them piecemeal. Concentrating as much at Armanah as possible was the right move IMHO, it at least allowed them to stop Maynarkh's advance then and there (at ridiculously obscene cost though).

The Necrons are not unstoppable as everyone has been saying. Every real loss is keenly felt. Their resources are very limited. And like the eldar, the loss of a tomb world/craft world would be catastrophic. (Exterminatus I think would be the easiest way)
Yes, they can reconstruct themselves, but when they don't, that necron is gone forever. This is in stark contrast to the Imperium, when worlds are chump-change, and the lives of its soldiers and citizens are practically worthless. There are always more humans to take their place.
The Necrons need planning the way they have been described, or else they would rapidly run out of resources for a war effort. Their technology is their edge, while the Eldar have psychic powers, and the Tau have hope and change.

There are more *millions* of Tomb worlds.
The only thing holding them back is lack of unity.

The "millions" of Tomb Worlds includes Tomb Worlds that are still asleep (the majority at the moment) as well as an unknown amount of them being damaged. These factors are likely purposefully kept ambiguous by GW, so the true strength of the Necron "faction" can never be determined (like most other factions).

They still were the unquestionable victors of by far the greatest conflict the Galaxy had ever seen. So I'd ultimately put the overall potential of a fully awakened and unified Necron Empire as enough to destroy everyone else.
Honestly I don't think the Imperium or the likes would even be considered a contender during the War in Heaven.

If they hypothetically were united and the majority of the tomb worlds awoken and not damaged (a low possibility, but this is hypothetically speaking), I think they'd probably be able to beat all the other races currently in the galaxy. That is assuming a lot of their tomb worlds weren't damaged, somehow.
"Currently in the galaxy" doesn't include the entirety of the Tyrannids, though. They would be more questionable.. Necrons were the victors of the greatest conflict the galaxy has ever seen, but Tyrannids don't even come from the galaxy in the first place so no one knows how strong their main body is. They may have possibly seen an even bigger conflict somewhere in another galaxy, after all (but only possibly).
I kinda wish the fluff would go back to why the Necrons hate Chaos so much, though. Seems it's been kinda ignored lately. Or even spat on by the allies matrix.

I have to add my 2 cents, GW has expanded the Necrons as well through the Damnos Apocalypse Campaign Setting, and their description of the battle, while doing the Necrons justice, doesn't make them out to be invulnerable either.

The Necrons don't have a problem with Chaos, they're wary of it, but in the end they're pliable as anything else.
Only the Eldar, who alone among the children of the Old Ones still remember the Old war, could really be considered their Archnemesis.
Effectively I think there are three major rivalries in 40k
Imperium vs Chaos
Eldar vs Necrons
Orks vs Tyranids
The Dark Eldar and Tau are too unimportant to count.

I thought Necron's rivals were the Tyrannids.
And Eldar's archnemesis was Slaanesh.
Imhotek hates Orks. Then there's Yarrik and Thraka and....
........................whatever.

The Orks are one kind of Bioweapon, the Tyranids are another, and the two are engaged in the largest single conflict in the galaxy right about now.
The Eldar were literally created for no purpose but to fight Necrons, Slaanesh has only been around for what? Ten thousand years? The Necrons have been the enemy since day one, 1 billion B.C Hate on that scale doesn't go away. Slaanesh is an enemy to be sure, but the Necrons are literally the entire reason for the Eldar's being.

But the Silent King wanted to united all the Necrons against the Tyranid horde in the intergalactic void. I think the Eldar views Necron as its main nemesis but the Necron doesn't view Eldar as a threat since the Eldars are so weak now.

Going from Thomas MacAbee's quotes on the matter the Necrons take special joy in thwarting the plans of their old enemies. Or perhaps more of sadistic satisfaction.
