Hi guys,
Looking to attend a local kill team tournament to get ready for the event at WHW in Dec.
The list I have been looking to run is imperial guards,
I am new to them but have heard that in kill team it's more quantity rather the quality, is this right?
So far I am looking at the following 200 point list.
Veteran Squad - 120 pts
Vet SGT (Leader, Feel No Pain)
Autocannon (Relentless)
Meltagun
2 Plasma Guns
Rattling Squad (4 Snipers) - 40 pts
Sentinel - 40 pts
Autocannon (Preferred Enemy)
Is there anything I could change or add to make this list fun but still competitive?
Thanks for looking and any advice you leave
Steve

I'd see about a Chimera, drop the Ratlings and maybe get a sniper to replace something (melta?) and give him Shrouded. I did Shrouded on a model, stuck him in a forest/ruin, and he did amazingly with a 2+ cover. (But ask your opponent how much cover everything gives first)

Preferred enemy is better then FnP at stopping overheat because you get to re-roll those ones.

What 3 USR would you give, if I take;
Veteran Squad - 105
Vet Sergeant (Leader)
Sniper Rifle (Shrouded)
Plasma Gun (Preferred Enemy)
Plasma Gun
Chimera - 55
Scout Sentinel (Autocannon) - 40
That can i use for the third USR?

Maybe jink on the scout sentinel if you can, or maybe outflank.

Why spend the points on another vehicle?
You are right, in Kill Team it is quantity over quality. The reason being that one model can only shoot one target. So I have to question the need for a chimera. Sure 6 multi-laser & HB shots are good, but it can only kill 1 model per turn. It's a large chunk of your points. Is your need for a transport in kill team so vital?
Personally I would get more guardsmen and load them with as many special weapons as possible.
The rattlings are fairly decent here, they will help you with high toughness targets.
I'm unsure about the sentinel, though at 40 points it isn't too expensive.

Chimera is pretty good as you can hide all your guardsmen in (excluding the sniper) and 6 of them can fire out. Unless the enemy took anti tank firepower (possible) or Necrons, that Chimera will last a while. The explosion if it detonates is a risk, but it's not too bad. The Sentinel will attract attention and the autocannon is a good light vehicle/ infantry gun.
There won't be many high toughness targets, if its a GW event (MC's were banned)

Nurgle bikers? Wraith guard? I count T6 as being pretty high tbh.
Also with MC's, there is no rule banning them directly. Though I believe there was an FAQ disallowing anything with more than 3 wounds.
I'm still not convinced by the Chimera, if you put the squad inside sure they may survive longer, but it limits their shooting and number of potential targets greatly (I believe when they are inside they act as one squad).
It also costs quite a lot, and quantity, not quality, seems to be the way to go here.

No one really took Nurgle Bikers and Wraithguard last events, IIRC. You're right, it's a 3 wound limit. Potential targets are reduced but all the squad's good weapons can fire anyway. The Chimera, sniper and Sentinel can all fire at different targets, and if lack of targets is an issue, you can always take men out of the Chimera. You can then use the Chinera as a LOS blocker.

IIRC every model counts as a unit of 1, so therefore only one guy can ever be in the chimera at 1 time as only 1 unit can eneter a transport at a time.
And as mentioned, wraithguard but more likely MoN bikers will be a regular sight i would have thought.
7 MoN bikers with 2 MG's is only 198 and is awesome for kill teams

Afraid this isn't quite right, the rules for the mission lets whole squads embark in the transport, but once they disembark they split up into individual units as per usual.
Also I was wrong about something, units in kill team can decide to split up shots between different targets. This makes larger models with more firepower more viable. Though I still believe Limiting the number of models in your army through large point investment is risky, as it brings the LD rolls at 50% even closer.
