I was reading through this thread and all I was reading was hypothetical suggestions on Allies for Orks. Does anybody have any successful (or unsuccessful) anecdotes for actual Ally matches with Orks? Primary or Ally detachment.

I played 2500 point double FOC match yesterday in which I took a Pain Boss and 10 plain Spanna Boyz as Dread Mob Allies. I stuck the Pain Boss with Snikrot, the minimum number of Kommandos, and 2 Bike Bosses. When they came on, they just wrecked everything on my opponent's side of the table. I only lost 2 Komandos, Snikrot, and 2 wounds off of one Warboss weathering that first round of shooting. Having a Painboy grant FNP to my Warbosses was awesome. Also, he is half the cost of the Mad Dok, has no Med Pack rule, and frees up an HQ slot in the Primary List for an additional Warboss.

In Single FOC matches I plan on running this unit with Snikrot, a larger Kommando Mob, a Pain Boss, and a Bike Boss.I can only imagine that in smaller matches with fewer units shooting that this unit will be more resilient with more ablative wounds. What do you think?

Yeah, I've used Dread Mob before. The Painboss is *fantastic* for boyz mobs and really, really should be in the standard codex. Adding extra Lootas or GBL is nice but generally overkill

I am reluctant to field a Grot Bomb Launcher outside of an Apocalypse game because I cannot find a note on which FOC it would occupy like most of the other entries.

I'm a big fan of the Mad Dok because FnP on the ork boyz he's throwing into redeemer fire is a lolworthy site and shouldn't be allowed.

Painboy HQ's yes please.

I'm a bit new and still haven't hammered down the details on how to field a Dread mob detachment, though from what I understand I need an issue from a magazine and the permission of anybody I play with to use them.

Yes I'm another player who only talks about allied detachments as theory because I'm too new, and would be highly interested in this thread.

I've been thinking I'm wanting Tau Crisis suits with some interceptor and missle pods.. Would a Crisis team be a bad buy? Has anyone done it?

EDIT; My thinking behind this is my friend is a termie totin, land raider ridin 10yr vet who first bloods with a drop pod dread that has a melta.. And I totally wish I had a unit or two with interceptor.

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works.

The Dread Mob is included in the Forge World source book Imperial Armour 8: Raid on Kastorel-Novem. It is like $70 American, so you should really research its contents before you decide to buy it.

As far as playing with the units listed in this source book, you and your opponent must agree before you play (just like every match). If you play a close minded purist with no tolerance of anything outside the standard game, then no. If you find an opponent who likes to explore fun or different aspects of the game, then you can.

The Dread Mob can be fielded as a Primary or Ally Detachment with the same relation on the Ally chart to other Codexes as Codex Orks, and as Battle Brothers with the Ork Codex. Forge World link here.

They updated the GBL in Imperial Armour Apocalypse: 2nd Edition.

Its now 5 points more and has a shoota. It can explicitly be taken as fast attack for Orks. No other differences.

With regards to forgeworld, it is down to if your opponent is ok with it - in the same way that if your opponent demanded you don't play a certain faction or a certain unit, you'd have to oblige them if you wanted to play. Or to make any other homebrew change to the game.

At least its not the Lifta Droppa, that things been updated three times.

If you want to use the GBL, just take the one from IA8 and apply the modifications as I've described them. Or don't, no skin off my nose.

You could also just field a mekkboy junka with two grot bombs as dedicated transport for you big mek. Grab your bits box, a manticore/death-strike missile and go for it

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

The only thing that annoys me about my local gaming club is that they are quite skeptical of FW rules, even for older codices like the Ork codex. A lot of them field 6th Edition Tau, Eldar and now SM armies, and pure Ork lists tend to get murdered (if you aren't fielding Nob bikers). Right now I have retired my Ork army so I can paint more of it for the eventually upcoming codex.

I have found that mechanized IG works decently well with mechanized Orks. This is because you suddenly have BS4 meltaguns that are fast enough to keep up with the Orks.

A CCS with plasma/melta in a Chimera and two meltavet squads in Chimeras can reliably pop enemy transports and let the Orks assault the contents. The Orks can either be in Trukks or Battlewagons.

In general, the IG codex has a lot of things that the Ork Codex lacks: BS4, ranged anti-tank, AP2 shooting and templates/large blasts.
Just keep in mind that this still doesn't work as well as a simple gunline does (as IG) sadly.

The only thing that annoys me about my local gaming club is that they are quite skeptical of FW rules

This is kinda the reason why i am avoiding FW like the plague. The biggest reason i hate apoc games is because the rules are so heavily altered not only is it a different game but the rule bickerings are multiplied 10 fold or more.

Dont get me wrong, i am a kitbasher at heart and i would LOVE to whip up some grot tanks. Its just the issue of 1) finding FW accepting players and 2) now theres even more rules to be complained about, because if i bring Grot Tanks someone else is bringing something less simple on the rules i guarantee it.

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.
