Rapist may have HIV from Greater Manchester victim
A man who has been jailed for raping a woman is waiting to find out whether he has contracted HIV from her.
Richard Thomas was sentenced to five years and four months after admitting raping the woman at her home in Leigh, Greater Manchester.
He knew she was ill but did not know she had HIV and collapsed when police told him, Liverpool Crown Court heard.
Thomas, 27, of Sandringham Drive, Leigh, raped the woman after she had taken a sleeping tablet.
'His own fault'
He said he had been drinking heavily and taken drugs, and could not recall the attack but believed the woman, the court heard.
Thomas had let himself into the house uninvited in the middle of the night and the woman, who had taken a sleeping tablet, awoke to find him raping her.
Harry Pepper, prosecuting, said: "She froze and no words were exchanged. He pulled up his shorts and left."
Judge Mark Brown described the crime as "dreadful".
Thomas is due to find out whether he has contracted HIV later in the week.
His barrister, Virginia Hayton, said: "It is his own fault, if he had not committed this offence he would not have placed himself in this position."

Its because ordinance is still a word.
However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.
Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives.

Shh, it's that anti-gay propaganda! Lucius, while a normally level headed sort of gent has fallen for the single colored rainbow of the hetero agenda.
Though that statement is probably the most humorous one I've heard in awhile
He's right though...women are more at risk than men.
Medical quotey stuff
Spoiler:
It's much harder for men to get HIV from women,
but it does happen. HIV does not live long outside the body. A man's penis is only exposed to HIV for the time that it is in a vagina or rectum. Men also may have fewer areas on the penis where the virus can enter the body. HIV can enter at the opening of the tip and through cuts or sores on the shaft. But if a partner has an untreated sexually transmitted infection (STI) like syphilis, gonorrhea, or chlamydia, the risk is higher. These infections can bring more CD4 cells to the area of infection, or cause breaks in the skin, both increasing the risk of passing HIV. Meanwhile, women have a higher risk of getting HIV from men. Because HIV is in the man's semen, which can stay in the woman's vagina for days, her exposure time is longer after sex. Also, the vagina provides a much larger area than the penis does through which HIV can enter the woman's body.

He didn't say that, he said transmission is virtually impossible... I'll agree it's low, but it's not impossible when you compare it to the other ways of contracting the HIV.
Common ways of Transmission, not including childbirth or blood transfusion: Receptive Butt Sex (either gender): .04% - 3% Insertive Butt Sex: .03% Receptive Vaginal Sex: .05% - .3% Insertive Vaginal Sex: .01% - .38%
And just to show how low those numbers are: Blood Transfusion: 90% Child Birth: 25%
So while it is a low chance that a woman can pass it to a man through vaginal intercourse, the high end of the percentage is actually higher unless my math skills have failed me, but .38 > .3 yes?
Now all of this assumes no condom use. Alf: So, what did we learn today kids? Kids: Wrap it before you tap it.

I think I've found those figures - , women have 0.04% of transmission to men, Men have a 0.08% chance of transmission to women - in high income areas.
I'm assuming the uk and america count as those - the figures you put were for low income countries

Someone already living with HIV who was further traumatized, that's some ugly business and my heart goes out to her.
While I can't say I approve of such an affliction as 'karmic retribution' (keep in mind, that this is someone who has proved they are willing to rape, what happens the next time he's free and done a little drinking and decides to get his rape on again? Now he's a potential infection source as well), at the same time I can't argue that he brought this upon himself, whether he was in an altered state of mind or not.
This is dakka - somebody has to mention how you can't take this kind of mathhammer in a vacuum. ...oh wait, there we go.
Only ever slightly more seriously... the risk is already quite low if you look at the pure percentages. But I'd love to know what the sample sizes were. If we're talking percentage of the population, then how high is that 0.3% or whatever in relation to how many people are having sex *without protection*? The risk becomes bloody high if we were to assume that, say, 98% of people use condoms - 0.3% of a 2% remainder suddenly works out to a 15% risk.
I also don't believe the figures can be directly compared, after all, you can't wear a condom for receiving blood or giving birth. That figure of unprotected sexers needs nailing down first.
Alfndrate - can you post a source for your figures please?

I think we need a couple instructional videos of what NOT to do, so that we can prevent exposure to HIV. I believe redtube has an extensive library on educational "dont's" on the matter.
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I should stress to anyone below the required legal age to view mature content online that nobody here is endorsing the searching of and/or subsequent use of the aforementioned 'educational library'. It's bad and you shouldn't do it.

There are alternatives.

2. Let her at him in a room...with pliers...

Karma is generally accepted by people as being "what goes around comes around". It's probably not how it was intended or is accepted as elsewhere, but this inherited meaning is so ingrained that it being incorrect, as far as its intended meaning is concerned, is unlikely to make much difference. I think that, instead of this potentially turning into a nit-picky debate over what karma is and/or isn't, it might be easier to let it lie.

Depends, what benchmark are you using? Are you using the Buddhist dharma, the Hindu dharma, the karma presented in Zhuan Falun, or 20th century western karma as presented by people who genuinely believe that bad things happen to bad people and we can all move mountains and cure illnesses by being pseudo intellectuals?

He didn't say that, he said transmission is virtually impossible... I'll agree it's low, but it's not impossible when you compare it to the other ways of contracting the HIV.
As this was rape there is a good chance of vaginal bleeding, if this happened then his chances of contracting HIV would be significantly higher.
