So, I don't know why the other thread got locked, and apologize if this isn't new thread worthy, but I just got shipping confirmation and tracking info for my pre-order, which means these ARE gonna be getting delivered before most stores get 'em.
I pre-ordered an LE Codex and a Strike-Force bundle, both of which shipped, for what it is worth.

Doubt it. I've received confirmation orders early before only to have my stuff arrive a week late. Until you get it in your hand, GW's shipping info is meaningless.

Yeah, until you look up the tracking number and the shipping company says they have picked up the package, then it hasn't shipped. GW has probably already boxed it up and printed the shipping , which is why you're getting that notice.

Goodness knows what it's like in the States, but over here, if you get something shipped to store (handy with mine being 10 minutes' walk from me) and you get the email to say it's shipping, * IT IS SHIPPING* and will be there. Mine receives orders on a Thursday afternoon though for a new release we're not allowed to have them until the Saturday, which makes me a sad panda.
On another note... did anyone else see this in their email?

Didn't get that in mine, but still excellent.
But yeah, on all new release preorders I've done, they've all been shipped to my local GW and have arrived around Thursday or Friday to be picked up on Saturday. I've done this on every LE Codex and Army book in the last year and it works without fail.

I think this is going to be one of the best half-year sales levels for GW in a long, long time. Space Marines are their big thing and a rerelease that actually includes a new tactical squad and a larger, more expansive codex is going to be very well received. I imagine their production and shipping staff are going to be very, very busy.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better. |

I'm not so sure anymore. Here the Sternguard work out to $12 a miniature ($11.39 USD / £7.32 GBP / €8.65 EUR) and almost every marine player I've talked to is talking about getting a box to make sergeants and characters out of. I think GW is right that people will pay Forgeworld level prices for plastic miniatures. I think the Tau and Eldar shortages come from them projecting the demand to be lower than it actually is. I think this space marine release will provide them with a short period of real growth in terms of both revenue and units sold. Marines are their big thing and I think they know it.

Hell the Sternguard box is one that you can only use some parts from and sell the remainder at exorbitant prices to make up the difference.
Not that I have been thinking of doing such a thing with Combi-Plasmas of course.

GW's current policy is that if you're having it shipped to a GW store it will be there by release day, if you're having it shipped to your home it will arrive (usually) shortly thereafter.
Games Workshop blundered by not having enough server capacity on their web store on their biggest release of the year. Their site was down most of the first 21 hours of the new Space Marines pre-orders launch last weekend. Today I got an Space Marines advertisement email from them with this text as the header: "Now that you've stopped breaking our webstore with your enthusiasm, look what you can buy!" LOL.

Not that I have been thinking of doing such a thing with Combi-Plasmas of course. The Vanguard box also looks like it has similar potential. 4 thunder hammer storm shields, 4 pairs of lightning claws, and all sorts of other parts. I'm guessing if someone where to get a Vanguard and a Sternguard box, they'd be able to make pretty much any character model they wanted from the new codex who wasn't in terminator armour or a chaplain and have enough parts left over for all their various sergeants and whatnot. And probably still have parts left over for ebay or other avenues for bitz sales. I've gotten sticker shock from some of the other GW 40k elite 5 man boxes (dire avengers, some of the necron stuff) but I think these have a much higher level of usefulness than the previous kits. A necron player doesn't really have much to do with the extra sniper rifles or big cannons that will be left over from their 5 model kits, but a space marine player will get so much more out of theirs.

I agree. You may throw a great deal of product out there and if the cost of the product is perceived to be too high people are going to balk. I am looking at the entire first half of the new fiscal year, because I am looking for growth of their customer base not, just profits, not just voodoo accounting practices, but real growth. And I expect a great deal from GW in this first half of the 2013 to 2014 fiscal year.
Got 4 different space marine armies. I also have Codex fatigue. Going to wait later on this codex not because it is good or not but because I do have codex fatigue.

Well, its anecdotal, but I, and at least three people I know from my local community had a collective unconscious, sort of moment recently.
Yes, GW products are expensive as hell... but we've also found ourselves throwing GOBS of cash at Kickstarters for games that will never have communities, will likely never see a gaming table at all, etc...
A few of us realized that there is an unwritten value in knowing WH40k will be played everywhere, and that opponents are around, even in more rural parts of the US.
In an effort to "save" money as a TTG I tried getting into some fun games like Dust Warfare... Now i'm $800 into it, have every unit...... and can't find a game unless I drive FOUR hours.
That money might've bought me 50% less models of GW product... but at least i'd be playing games. :-p

Soo true. Ever since I picked up 40k during my military days, I've never been unable to find an opponent. I may have to drive up to an hour to get to a game store, but there is always someone there who you can get a game going with. Considering how carefully I have to manage my time these days, knowing a pick up game is always at arms reach is a huge bonus.

As tech support myself, I can see two likely reasons for the failure - possibly both, even - which are understandable, but frustrating.
1) It's not considered worth the extra cost to sort out higher spec servers/bandwidth that you're only going to use a couple of occasions in the year. By comparison - a McDonald's won't hire extra staff all year round just because they get busy on Saturdays. They'll hire extra Saturday staff, but that's not an option with permanent hardware and ISP agreements that last for months at least.
2) The site hosting is outsourced, and the company responsible either weren't warned of the increased load or just didn't heed it seriously enough.
Azza007 wrote:When is the release date for the new SM stuff in the UK? Can't see it on the site.
This Saturday, the 7th. If you haven't already put pre-orders in they won't arrive at your store in time so your best bet is to head down early in the morning and hope there's enough of what you want to go around.

Yep, he is worthless ... they took an old roman-like head, put it on the old AOBR captain and gave him a Grav-Gun ... but the price, for $10 I would say "ok, at least he is plastic, could use some bits" ... and oh yeah ... you can't use much bits, because that gun is attached to the body > VERY BAD
Not gonna buy him, which means a lot as I tend to collect and buy unique models

Exactly my experience. I didnt drop any money besides an aegis defence line on gw products this year. I bought a Flames of War army, a Hordes Army and several other games like dystopian wars and dreadball. Most of them gather dust and i play 40k. If i wouldve bought a 40k army at least it would see a gaming table once in a while.

My state has it's own tabletop gaming website where we can coordinate what to play and with whom, so it's easy to see if a game will have a playerbase or not, might be worth looking for similar if you have trouble finding non-gw games to play. I'm contemplating getting a UK discounted SM battleforce (or 2) shipped over though, it's actually decent value enough to contemplate starting another army (not to mention buying official/new models) and looks like a great unit composition.

So, I see (and understand) the hate for the new Captain being a repurposed AOBR Captain.... but is it weird that I actually like the AOBR Captain model? I mean... $30 is criminal, but my first "modern" GW purchase was an AOBR box and think my Captain looks pretty cool. :-p

One would have thought that Space Marines would be the biggest release of the year for Games Workshop, but it wasn't so at my local Games Workshop Bowie (Maryland) store. They sold a lot of books, but little else. A friend of mine who owns his own store and mail order business said the same thing: he sold a lot of books, but not many model kits. Maybe the main problem is that the majority of existing Space Marine players already own most of the models they need so they only wanted the new Codex given the prices on the new models.
