I'm having trouble even coming up with a good theory on where to place the asteroids. So, how do the rest of you do it? What are you trying to gain from their position? Do you change placement based on what list you're taking? Or do you just put them in a random legal spot because it doesn't really matter?

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I try to keep a couple of open lanes to navigate through. Especially when I use a bigger ship I try to not bunch them up too much. Plonking some down close to your enemy is another alternative ... hinder his movement a bit ... or force him to risk the damage or take a certain router.

I dont play tournaments though ... so Im not sure how mich thought those guys put into it

There was something I thought about the asteroids being range 2 apart from another asteroid so as not to clump them together allowing larger ships to fly easily through them, but not too easily.

I tend to place one in the center of the board and then Range 2 it out from there.

I just throw them on the table. Lol. Where they land is where we play them. Asteroids are random, they shouldn't be "placed".

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Aye, same here, as just randomly placed starting from the middle of the table.

I think they should move around.

Seems like a good way/excuse to use the Dakka Scatter Die...

I put 1 or 2 (coin flip) into each table quarter, and me and my opponent take turns placing them until they are all out. I do like the idea of movement though...must give this some thought.
