Lemme throw another monkey-wrench in this debate. Maybe ther BR gene seed is a combination of couple or more chapters worth of contributions. Gene-splicing anyone?

I actually run Blood Ravens. I use the Vanilla Marines. You can't base everything off the video games. Read the books on Blood Ravens, you'll see, other than their love for Librarians, they are pretty much on par with Ultramarines .
Keep in mind, their chapter master fell to Chaos , so right now the Chapter isn't the most liked in the Imperium. They are kinda like the Soul Drinkers without deformities.

At least Captain Titus likes us, as well as the Silver Skulls and Novamarines. Automatically Appended Next Post: Im also on the RG bandwagon, tactics wise. Getting to move guys in response to the enemy before the battle screams BRs.

What Chapters have not been named as a possible parent for the Blood Ravens?
Anyways, I play them. Sometimes as Blood Angels with Brother-Librarian Markiston with his triumphant Iron Will manifesting itself in his superior stats/psychic abilities, or with Battle-Brother Timothy, horribly disfigured by Orks, with a grim destiny and his Deadman's Hand. Or, sometimes I run them with Marcus Cutter, in his ornate Terminator Armor and ancient Raven's Claws, a pair of Power Fists with built in Special Bolters....
Haven't read the new SM Codex yet, but I imagine Marcus Cutter will be getting more play time for a bit...

I agree with you to a point.
They appeared awfully close to the time of the Cursed Founding.

I've been wrestling with this today.
Officially, as per the codex, the Blood Ravens along with the Exorcists and Death Spectres are the main examples of 'unknown founding' chapters, and therefore, ruleswise, you pick whatever you want.
Aside from that, there really isn't much I can really see myself doing to make particularly fluffy Blood Ravens in the codex.
It's worth noting that for Apocalypse the 1000 Sons 'Finest Hour' rule is remarkably fluffy for Blood Ravens.

In my store we have a person who has made up his own Blood Raven rules. We all accept them as rather cool so we like them. He has it so for 20pts you may upgrade the Sgt to a Lexicantum who is a LD 8 mastery level 1 psyker with access to Bio/telepath/kenisis, 15pts for a force weapon. Its almost like they are loyalist thousand sons...
His combat tactics are that all sergeants may choose to master craft their weapons for free but get get's hot to represent the stolen weapons.

They Blood Raven's are the Second Son's of Russ, sent on a secret mission to infiltrate the ranks of the Codex followers and prove good the name of RUSS. That is why they share similar traits to all chapters except the Wolves because they don't want thier true mission to be uncovered!

I have read most of the heresy era black library books, but don't remember any mention of the thousand sons having successors, or any of them remaining loyal.
Could you point me in the right direction for the books with this information? I would be interested to read it.
Magnus sends away the 1k Sons fleet before the arrival of the Space Wolves. IIRC a few strike cruisers of it end up being specifically mentioned fighting alongside the loyalists that do not make it to the siege of Terra. What happens to the rest is not mentioned, but a few loyalist sons strike cruisers show up aiding loyalists not involved in the Siege of Terra.
It should also be pointed out that Blood Ravens iconography is a (VERY) close match to pre heresy Thousand Sons Corvidae Cult images, and their battle doctrines are actually identical, supposedly, to pre heresy thousand sons. In addition, the fleet is more or less led by Arvida, who opens his mouth at one point and says what later becomes the Blood Raven's motto aloud (apparently a common saying among the Thousand Sons), before swearing himself to find and destroy the powers that destroyed his legion. Ten Thousand years later, a mythic figure called 'Azariah Vidya' is called 'The Great Father' by the Blood Ravens, who led them in battle against Chaos in the Gothic sector. Davian Thule will not speak of it, but Ahriman observes in the book by he who will not be named: "I knew Vidya better than you might expect"
That and in 'A Thousand Sons', page 430, Eris opens her mouth and prophesies the following: "The Ravens. I see them too. The lost sons and a Raven of blood. They cry out for salvation and knowledge, but it is denied!"
