OK so I've had an avid interest in GW products for many years now since my early teens. I've owned and played the following :

Heroquest
Space Crusade (to which recently on a retro whim i've bought both back on ebay )

Then as i got a little older, i tried to advance onto more complex games, but having no one local who i knew who played or seemed to take interest. These games inevitably sat on the self gathering dust :

Advanced Heroquest
Space Marine / Epic / Armageddon
Warhammer

During this time I'd painted quite a few models, just for self enjoyment, some from the games some I'd bought as separates just for the sake of painting them. I really enjoyed this side of the game and no matter whether i found someone to play against or not i was happy in the fact id taken this side of the hobby on quite strongly. By the time I'd got round to owning fantasy Warhammer though it had been a while since i'd painted anything, my kit was in a bad state and although i tried yet again to find someone to fight and paint the models I'd bought it just kinda fizzled out for me and everything including my brushes just got shelved.

Now at least 10 yrs on, I'm back again, at 34 some may say its a mid-life crisis but I don't care. I've taken on a lost these past 12-16 months including drumming and exercise/healthy living and I'm still going strong at all of those so I'm hoping this will be another feather in the cap this time. Having the joy of internet at my fingertips now (IT Manager day job). Finding information, clubs, other players etc is right there, endless all I have to do is look. This has been the greatest change for me I've seen since my rocky start all those many years ago.

Anyway enough spiel, I'm back, I've got a rulebook, which I'm reading and finally absorbing it, I've found a local club and although I've not been round I do plan to once I get my army sorted and in some resemblance of ready. I've bought the dark vengeance game, also the Eldar battle force and codex as I plan to have an army of Eldar. Although, I bought it all in reverse and after looking around I've come to conclude I prefer the sound of the Chaos Space Marines, so I'm gonna shelve the Eldar for now, an go get an army together of CSM.

Whereabouts in derbyshire are you?

I'm at a very similar stage to you. Used to paint when I was a teenager but never got into playing the game. Been painting again for a few months and now found a club close by that I'm thinking of going to. I'm also getting my old models into some form of reasonable army before going.

What I've found is the local gaming store do 200pt battles to learn the game, the club I've been in contact with have offered this also. Not sure what I can even build for that, it seems harder than building a full size army. :/

Good luck getting into it. I wouldn't say 34 is a mid life crisis btw. 32 here and still consider myself young.

Well I'm guessing 200 points would pretty much be a squad and a transport, or maybe part of the battle force or the DV game armies. I'm not far from GW HQ and have been there on some of there night sessions. I watched a whole match where they had 4 people one side and 3 the other (including a GW staff member ) Each player had either 2-3 squads, or 1-2+ a transport. They also had two players using super huge tanks.....which I'm guessing are something to do with apocalypse but I'm no where near ready for that, so that's on my ignore list atm lol.

As for my age, I am no where near growing up just yet. I've spent the last 10 years addicted to Warcraft. I'm definitely young at heart although less so in looks these days lmao.

PredaKhaine - I'm from Ilkeston, work in Heanor and usually travel to GW HQ in Nottingham for stock and information. Although looking at their prices and the cost online I think I'm going to shop off the net from now as 25% off rrp is nothing to scoff at.

Lol no I'm not that skillful and I don't have a nurgle model in the house atm. I'm currently working on a CSM from the dark vengeance box.

Once I've done that i'll post some photos, I'm quite impressed that my skills haven't diminished further over the years but I'm still far away from professional

DarkSphere are within walking distance from my work so I'll never pay full price for anything. eBay is where the majority of my stuff will come from as well.

Yeah 200 is enough for a small squad and something bigger, getting a balance with it seems hard to me but I have no odea how any of it plays in the end, just lots of second hand opinions from on here. Rule of cool and affordability will be my leading army choice. Got good foundations for Dark Angels, Chaos and Eldar to build on from when I was young.

Evening, i too am in the same position, loads of old gammy (currently being repainted by my less impatient self) space marines and i have never really had a proper game.
