Anyone manage to get into the elder scrolls online beta? If anyone has can you post up what you thought about it, especially if you played Skyrim. I'm really interested in playing it, hopefully it will be more like Skyrim and less like all the other crappy MMORPGS out there (wow, guild wars, warhammer, ff14, diablo 3, list goes on.. and on.. and on).
I am a huge RPG buff and cannot find a decent MMORPG. They are all the same, tons of abilities with cool downs, can't free roam early, can't equip stuff unless your a certain level, have to do pointless quests that are really uninteresting, have to fight one monster at a time near your level or you die, every 8th person is a exact replica of you and your skills. Don't get me wrong, those games were ok and had good graphics and some play value, I just feel like mmo's lose something between the online vs single player.. anyone else feel that way?
Sorry if someone already posted something about this game, looked through the first 3 pages and didn't see anything.

Yes, but the stupid launcher kept me out of the stress test yesterday with corrupt destination errors. Hopefully I'll be able to get in to the next test.

Oddeye, have you tried Ultima online? It's got everything you described.
Plus if you do the free shards, you can get custom cities etc.

It will be very similar to the MMO 'herd', very few MMOs try to do anything genuinely different.
The only interesting thing about TESO is that it appears to be replicating Dark Age of Camelot's PvP system which could be interesting (although it failed in WAR due to balance and zerging issues).

The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

I got in the beta during the stress test and only got kicked a few times. The real problem I had with it was it felt like I was playing skyrim with 500 people around me all doing the same damn thing.
Sneak up on a wolf to stab it with your dagger? Nope 18 mages and 25 fighters come flying out of no where to kill the same thing.
Crouched and line up perfect shot from your bow same 800 people come and try and kill what you are shooting at.
Maybe it will get better later on and not be so full of people but I personally never liked any followers in skyrim and all Elder scrolls online felt like was skyrim with 100 followers.

This is silly! Buttons are not how one escapes dungeons! I would smash the button and rain beatings liberally down on the wizard for playing such a trick!

that is typical for any mmo, with each wave of new players you will find starter areas flooded and doing anything becomes a pain. You just have to wait the wave out so they out level you or try and find another place to go if it is possible.

Elder scrolls will be different I think. If I read the info about the game correctly it wont be like most MMOs that have different servers the player base will be on like how WoW, Neverwinter, and DC universe online do it. Elder scrolls wants all the players on the same server so the pvp experience is like nothing before. That being said, there are 3 different factions so it may not be as crowded as my time and they were doing a stress test so they needed as many players as they could get.
I have played my fair share of MMOs and I have dealt with having 5-10 people doing the same quest as I was but not 30-40 and when Elder scrolls goes live I have a feeling that it wont be as crowded because it all depends on how many people buy the game. Although, having one server that everyone is on will make the game overly crowded

Hoping they will put out non-pvp server, this game will have more interest to the wider community when they do. I dislike getting ganked by little kids who get beat up in school with more time to play and I prefer exploring and developing my character according to how I want him, not according to whats the most L33T build. Forced PvP tends to stifle character development and force certain builds.
|
If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM! |

all i know is that there will be one server and a PvP area
so you dont need to fear getting ganked

I am aware of the area, but you wont be able to freely explore what will likely be a massive area or the areas for the other factions. So effectively 2/3 of the map will be off limits. I will have to see how customizable and big the maps are but right now, as much as I love the ES franchise, I am not paying money for 1/3 of a game.

Its not that there will be one server. Rather, the game world is shared amongst all the servers with the players split between numerous instances allowing players to move freely among the population (none of that, I'm on one server, but my friends are on another so I have to pay to play with them).
Thats what I get from what's been said.

So does PvE. Communities will always stray towards the 'optimal' build for a given task and people who shirk the 'proper' way to play will be ridiculed. Same old same old.

True but as a PvE player, no one else matters and I really dont care about so called ridicule by 12 year olds for not having the L33t PvP build of the week. A PvE player can build how they wish and it doesnt affect the game play of anyone else. A PvP build directly affects other players. Note this is from someone who rarely groups up in any mmo and thinks raids are a waste of time.

I like how everyone who plays competitively is 12 years old. That's showing some good maturity right there.
I probably won't be playing it because ES combat mechanics have always been terrible and I don't see the point to grinding away with that nonsense. Especialy when I have to pay them for it monthly. The only reason I could imagine myself getting into this is for PVP.

DC Universe does something like that, doesn't it? Everythings shared until there's too many players in an area, then they open up another 'phase' that you can switch between.
