Hello Wargamers!

So... I don't play Warmachine. I don't actually play any wargames, but it turns out my LGS has a huge Warmachine crowd. I talked to one of the owners and he broke down some of the armies for me, I've done some other research, and I was thinking about buying the two-player box set and expanding the Menoth portion. I'm wondering if a Menoth list with the idea of "set all the things on fire" is a viable tactic?

Something like this tiered list @ 35pts...

* High Executioner Servath Reznik (+6)

* Vanquisher Heavy Warjack (8)

* Castigator Heavy Warjack (8)

* Repenter Light Warjack (4)

* Leader + 4 Exemplar Cinerators (8)

* Leader + 5 Flameguard Cleansers (5)

* Leader + 5 Flameguard Cleansers (5)

* 3 Wracks (Free)

That is 32 points. I could add a Hierophant or Vassal and have 1 pt left, or up a Cleanser unit to 8....

There are two teams of 5 cleansers in order to be able to use their special ability twice.

I've watched a bunch of Battle Reports and I really don't understand why so many people run huge small unit lists as they often die in 1 attack and get chained together. I figure at least the Cleansers are ranged units and the Cinerators have a few HP each.

Any thoughts?

A guy qualified for masters at GenCon. With a similar list. It was a tier 4 list. No Cinerators though, cause they're terrible. Two Vanquishers, two Reckoners, two units of Cleansers, max Choir, the dude who collects souls, it was pretty brutal. That and he was a really good player which always helps.

If you want Fire, you want either version of Feora. Preferably eFeora (Protector of the flame) and either a Redeemer or a Judicator (but the Judicator is a big investment, a redeemer is fine). She will set the world on fire for you.

Reznik is a hell of a lot of fun, but he's more about brute force and shutting down magic than fire. His theme force (which I think you're going for there) is also not that great except for the cheap Reckoners it grants. Generally, I'd a avoid the theme lists to start with, until you have a good idea of the game besides which, his theme force doesn't let you take the Choir - and you'll find those guys are very central to making our jacks work.

Now, for everything else:

The vanquisher is awesome, grab a Vassal of Menoth and he's firing two big gobs of fire a turn. A must for any fire list.

The repenter is cheap but good. Not a bad investment.

The Castigator... He's not all that great. He does do the firey thing, but there are better options. If you wanted to try him though, get the plastic reckoner/Castigator/sanctifier kit and magnatise the arms (there are tutorials online!) so you can change him over. A Reckoner from that same kit has a Flare gun (it has Crit fire at least), so it's a little firey, but is generally a better option.

Clensers... Well, they're not that great sadly, but if you run them in two small units (as you're doing!) they're ok, and they can create a small cloud wall to conceal your forces. However, I might recommend getting some Temple Flameguard first - with their Officer in the unit, they all cause Continuous Fire, and they're fast as well, which helps for getting good board positions early.

If I'm not mistaken this is 39 points? I just googled the Gencon Masters and they look like 50 point tournaments?

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

You want eFeora if going for a fire theme. She's all about fire.

her competitive list is something like the following.

eFeora
-Judicator(bonded)

Vanquishers and Repenters are good jacks because they cause fire.

Reckoners are also good, perhaps the best heavy in the game for its points.

Max TFG with UA. Maybe 2 units.

Vassals for additional shots

Choir

The big deal with eFeora is the bonded Judicator. The Bond makes its rockets cause fire, meaning you can light a significant amount of your opponents army on fire early in the game. And if in Feora's control area, Fire doesn't go out. Which will instantly kill most infantry, and can put a hurt on anything except the heaviest armor.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

Yeah, I don't remember the whole list. GenCon masters qualifiers were three fifty point lists. I don't recommend starting this way, just pointing out that Reznik tier list is no joke.

I recommend you start with the battle box until you know each model intimately and what order to do things in. That will take some time, so don't get frustrated. This game rewards knowledge greatly and there is a lot to learn.
