Question abut Helldrake and hover
hey guys, one of my buddies from my gaming group says that since the helldrake has the hover special ability it is allowed to hover in place and shoot as normal. Is this allowed? with all the other helldrake nonsense (vector-strike then flame torrent out its ass) I thought it sounded a little too OP to be true.

thanks in advance.

It is.

But if it does so it's treated like a Skimmer - meaning you don't need 6's to hit it (you hit on normal ballistic skill).

Of course a flyer with hover mode can hover in place and fire as normal.
It does carry a lot of risks but is perfectly legal.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

IIRC it also cannot Vector Strike while Hovering.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

If your opponent wishes to hover their Heldrake, jump on that chance - it no longer benefits from Hard to Hit. It's a one-turn free pass to rip it out of the sky with little effort.

If it's hovering i'm assuming not much can be done since it's near the end of the game?

Unless your opponent makes a horrible mistake and does this in turn 3.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

I believe it can.

It can't.
It requires Zooming.

Well, end of the game or not, it should still make for a good Kill Point if you're in the right mission. It's also worth taking out in objective games - if you leave it alive, and the game stretches to another turn, it's capable of pushing out those last few stragglers you have sitting on the primary objective that would otherwise net you the win.
