So I got challenged to a game of X-Wing a week ago and last night I got to throw down. His list is a standard Han Shoots First (Han + 2 Rookie X-Wings), but I wanted to try something new. I'm, a big fan of the Rebels, so I built a Rebel list to run with, but I wanted to see just how good those new Advanced Torpedoes are. So I rolled Wedge deep w/ PtL, R2 astromech, Engine upgrade, and the Torpedoes. Tycho w PtL, homing Missiles and a Green wing w/ cluster missiles as backup. Kinda putting everything Into wedge was not the greatest of ideas, especially with the Han + gunner threat, but I figured that I should get a good kamikaze attack at least. 1st turn of shooting I got target locks on the falcon, and took pot shots at his escorts scoring a couple of shields from one (wedge) and 1 from the other (the A wings) and wedge losing his shields to the fullisade from all of his ships. turn 2, I boosted from extreme range 3 to point blank on the falcon, and boat dumped. The advanced Torpedoes stripped all 5 shields and a hull (0 defence!). 6 damage! The homing missile and cluster from range 2 finished the job. After that it was down to mopping up the Escorts. I don't think they would be really worth fielding against fighters, the basic Torpedoe will vape them easily enough. but against the yt1300 or the firespray...epic.

Doesn't Wedge drop defense to a minimum of 1? Doesn't sound like he had much of a chance anyway, but I'm pretty sure he had one die to attempt. Also, he didn't have the falcon upgrade to get a free evade? Wow... Automatically Appended Next Post: Well, get evade as an action, I mean.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Nope, minimum of zero: http://xwing-miniatures.wikia.com/wiki/Wedge_Antilles
And yeah, seems silly to not grab a 1 pt upgrade but still, good show with the missiles.

How did you do six damage with a five-damage advanced torpedo shot?

When you make an attak at range 1 you roll an additional Red, when you are attacked at range 3 you roll an additional Green.
Sweet, I was totally cheating. The range bonus only works for a PRIMARY weapon. I will remeber this for next time.

Yeah, this is a very important one to remember. Secondary weapons are awesome for making range 3 shots since you go from 2-3 attack dice vs. 3-4 defense dice to 4 attack dice vs. 2-3 defense dice, and even a 3-dice ion cannon at range 3 is still getting a nice advantage since it denies the extra green. Meanwhile secondary weapons are less useful after the initial exchange of fire if you have the ability to close in to range 1 and hit them with the same 4 attack dice without paying points for it.

That's okay, for our first few games we were doing the same thing as well, but since all of us thought it was this way, we didn't really cheat each other .
This has since been fixed

Yeah, my first game I got the rule on ranges mixed up and was adding an attack die at range 1 and subtracting one at range 3. Not the rule at all, but since we did that consistently it was still fair.
Plus, I ended up losing, so it's not like my mis-remembering of the rules helped me in the slightest either.
