Went to a tech school that was only adding true 'dorms' int he late 90s, but had 2 'apartment-dorms'.... One of which was 4 guys in one bedroom ("Submarine style" bunk beds) and the other with 2 bedrooms, each for two people, sharing a living area.

Chuck it in a medium sized tool box. lock it if you want.
You should have enough room for a decent range of paints and enough room to store a few tanks or a bunch of troops.
If all else fails send the ones you finish back home through the post and keep recycling in new models if you want to paint more.

My only comment is that you wan to be able to lock your stuff away so some cunny funt doesn't see you models as something little they can mess with as part of a practical joke. Even a mate might not see the value and effort we tend to put into a model.
We do, but you can also pick your roommate at the end of a semester, so its not a huge deal.

Most of the time, if you know you're attending college with someone before it starts, you can generally put them down as a possible roommate. My buddy and I from high school did our housing applications together, wrote down the same answers, and then finally put each other as people we knew that we'd like to room with... We were roommates for 2 years before he transferred schools and I moved into the fraternity house.

Bring them! I go to UNT in Denton as well, and there is a thriving gaming community. I'm not sure about TWU's gaming clubs but there is plenty of community to be had. Reaper's HQ is less than a mile from my apartment, there is a GW within walking distance, and no less than four FLGS. Don't let these game jocks and old fogeys get you down. Bring your models and paints and you'll have more than a small excuse to meet some people.

Painting Warhams doesn't necessarily keep you from chasing girls. It's not hard to do both, just not at the same time obviously

Did both, and much like timetowaste's experiences, having an open door policy lead to girls wondering wtf I was doing. I got a few dates in college because of the warhams.

If you have room, take a 2K army with you, and just enough paints to work on it.
If space is an issue, don't do it. It depends on your setup.
I would suggest picking up a sport\physical activity while there. Anything you find interesting; soccer, basketball, martial arts, golf, weight lifting.
I got into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu really heavily in college. I lost ton's of weight and girls loved it when I could make the huge football players tap out.
Don't show the models to girls and don't make a big deal about it. As I said, if you have the room keep them (locked up when not in use).
If you are bored on an evening bust them out and paint, or go to the FLGS and a play a game.

I feel like this thread has gone from x to y and hypotheticals. Really my friends are all nerdy as hell, we play league together and they are support the idea of bringing them. Also everyone knows I am hella nerdy. But yea I have the space, and I actually have taken up weight lifting (my room mate is a physical trainer and he is helping me). Chasing tail is like, oppening my door, going outside and being like, yo I am one of 1000 guys on a 10,000 girl campus. Come at me.

Fellow student here (university of waterloo, software engineering). Bring 'em. I went to a massive frosh week club event, got super hammered and had a fantastic time, then proceeded to spend the following day alternating between sleeping and painting warhammer. I was too hung over to do anything else.
They key is balance. You can't do anything all the time - including studying, chasing tail, or painting. You have to learn to balance them to your own happiness. Just make sure you take advantage of that girl:guy ratio, because here its two to one guy to girl.
Also, I don't even bother hiding them. I've put them on display on a shelf. It gives me the motivation to work out and go partying to make up for the geekiness of Warhammer.

Take your stuff.
there are usually opportunities to play while you are in school. there may already be a 40k league there to play in. I work as a biologist in the field. Right now i am living in a barracks in the middle of nowhere and i brought all my hobby stuff so i could work on it in my down time.
Hobbies are great ways to fill time instead of just surfing the web, partying etc. I say do it.

Bring a small contingent. Enough to keep you busy between holidays. You can always work on em less as females/clubs/orgs/intramurals/beer/concerts/chaos (not the spikey kind) get in the way from time to time.

Bring them, I picked up Warhammer while at Uni and I had plenty of time to do so between the end of class and the evenings activity. I'm not saying you'll spend hours painting away at once but you learn to make the most of small hours you have between parties or just hanging out with friends.
Two pieces of advice that seem to be lacking in this thread though, 1) Just be yourself, if you aren't a party person don't follow the "get hammered " or "chase tail" advice that seems to come from people aching up to the "STUDENT" stereotype. At Uni I went to a few parties but found myself preferring to do cinema trips or walking trips with my mates (We're archaeology students which might explain the eagerness to explore the back end of nowhere). By just doing what I found interesting and fun I had the best years of my life and even met my Fiancée whilst at Uni through these activities. That said if you are a "Party all night" kind of person then have at it by all means!
2) If you have a few hours between class instead of after class go to the library or study! Its hard enough to keep on top of work with everything else going on at Uni, if you have a gap in classes during the day use that time to study while you are still engaged mentally and in academic mode! Frankly it was the only way I could keep on top of the work and get the grades I needed to move on to the Masters. Don't be so quick to find a distraction during the day, the evenings are plenty long enough for everything else you will do in the three years you need to be studying for!

Take the absolute minimum. If you find that time and space is acceptable, pick some more up for the next term/semester.
It's really only down to you and your time management. Going to echo Spectral Painting NI above. If you have spare time between classes during the day dedicate it to studying for your course. You'll need to do a whole lot of extra curricular studying and work if you want to keep on top of the degree. Any free time after classes should be A-OK for your own hobbies, so long as you feel justified in the effort spent during the day.
Enjoy university, enjoy life.

I doubt I'd take any figures to college. Though I would bring paints, tools and glue and build terrain in my spare time with whatever cheap stuff I'd come over. I'd possibly bring one infantry model for scale.
