Ok so I have been out of the hobby for the last 5-6 years and I have finally had my arm twisted enough in the form of small friendly 1K games with good friends to dip my toe in again, and here comes the but....... but 40K was never my strong point so I'm throwing myself and my list to the lions so to speak in the hope of not being shot / laughed off the table, so please feel free to comment many thanks in advance here goes.
Reclusiarch - 130
10 ASM
Sergeant PF, 2 x melta - 235
10 ASM
Sergeant PF, 2 x melta - 235
7 Death Company
4 PW - 200
Stormraven - 200
Total 1000
The idea being that it's all mobile and fits in with my idea of a small elite strike force.

I regular against a BA player with who has a very similar list, one thing I may suggest is to see if you can fit a Sanguinary Priest with JP somewhere into your list. They really do wonders for your ASM with survivability issues.

If I drop the DC to a 5 man unit with 3 PW and swap out the PF to PW on the ASM sergeants that should give me the 75 points required for a Sanguinary priest but is it worth the trade ?

Just started playing BA actually and I've run with and without Sanguinary Priests.
Get one, two if you can. Once your opponent knows what they do for your ASM's they'll end up aiming for his squad almost exclusively. And yeah, it's worth dropping a powerfist or two to get one.

Completely it adds FNP and Furios Charge to the assualt Squads. Personally i try to take 1 per squad. including my sanguinary gaurd.

honestly the DC are too epensive to take. they can be fun but really are they worth their points?
Automatically Appended Next Post: i don't see the as having jump packs so i assume you are putting them in the stormraven. which means they won't be useful till turn 3 anyway.

I've used a StormRaven once and it surprised me how effective it was, I did kit it out with the MM and hurricane sponsons though to give it a bit more firepower.
However, I think the point people would make is the Raven is a fire magnet as people know they are a fairly nasty flier.
List looks a lot like my base list TBH, although I'm not a good one to ask advice - I have managed to win 1 game out of 12 so far with my BA!

no the reason we say don't do that is the storm Raven doesn't come in till turn 2 at the earliest. then when it comes on to be able to deploy the death company you either A) still have to deepstrike them. B) have to wait till next turn. So effectively your expensive unit isn't usable till turn 3 at the earliest.
The only reason to put anyone in the storm raven is to keep them off the field (like when your drop poding everything and your libby doesn't fit into one of them).

Either Jump packs(expensive) or a DropPod (risky). Land Raider cost too much. Rhinos get shot up to quickly. With the Drop pod they come in turn 1 right next to the enemy. Jump Packs you can do 1 of two things.
1) Run them Down the field. Usual method. jump from cover to cover(or just straight for the enemy).
2)DeepStrike. Risky. enemey will spend a couple squads trying to kill them. Should be fine. Can't assualt that turn, but draws fire letting your other squads get close for the kill.

how are you running your army? i rarely loose with my BA. (like 1 in 15 games i will loose and those are 2 on 2 games where its my partner that lost use the game, i generally take out 3/4 of the enemies myself.)

with blood angels i found the HIGH RISK = HIGH REWARD method works best. any time i try to run a careful game it doesn't work in my favor. Thats what works for me. Automatically Appended Next Post: 1 last thing. They only time i take DC now is when facing daemons. I don't know why they just work REALLY well against them.

DC in a LR is the best bet for them, they all die is a SR gets shot down.
Otherwise a few tips from a BA who has been through thick and thin,
- switch out pf's off sgts. With the challenge mechanics in 6ths the old PF sgt is a huge liability these days. Either naked or go with a sword/axe.
- the mathhammer for effective survival is one priest per 20 units in range. Anything less and a extra body on the table would do you better.
- DC with bolters are kinda crazy, with relentless/overwatch/threat range they outperform pistol/ccw DC.
