HI so i was going to ask this in da waggggh forum but that is still down so i figured i would ask it here and get more than just an Ork opinion .

I was recently thinking of attending my provincial GW tournament "storm the coast "that is usually run along side Halcon , in Halifax NS , a scifi and comic convention . I have been planning to attend the last few years but work always gets in the way .
This year I went to download the rules and discovered it is not being run any more .A bit of research and I found that GW has discontinued it's support for the tournament circuits .

This got me to thinking .
if there are no more GW sanctioned tournaments , then there is no such think as a tournament legal model . which opens up the possibility of using non GW models in your army , as long as it passes the WYSIWYG test. For orks this opens up a ton of non GW model lines that are ripe to be converted . I have a shelf of airplane models that i was planning to use for wreks and terrain , but now i have the beginnings of an ork airforce .

The other thing i noticed is that i have started to see some non GW models popping up in armies on the youtube ( fantasy ) battle reports . Is anyone else seeing more non GW models being played , now that the" tournament legal " rule is effectively void because there are no more GW sacntioned tournaments ?

i figured i would toss this out there for discussion and see what others think.

Since GW doesn't have their tournament packets anymore and can't dictate what is done by the tournaments, it remains up to the TO. If he says GW plastic/models only then you go with that, if he says WYSIWYG then you do that.

3rd party models have been legit for indy tourneys for years now. Basically "you take the kings coin, you do the kings bidding".

GW hasn't been handing out prize support, organizing regional or RTT tourneys for years now. The only reason an event has 'majority GW models' was if it was an event sponsored by GW to generate GW sales. Indy and FLGS have no obligation or even reason to promote such a rule.

I also think this is why we see almost no 3rd party stuff for PP. PP is very active in their tourney organization and support, and in turn require PP models to be used in said events. We had 3rd party models back in the days of GWGT but people avoided them due to the 70% rule. I personally feel the explosion of 3rd party models is a direct result of a lack of official GW events and GW-run play because we as a community have been sculpting and casting models for 20+ years and have had gaping holes in product lines for 20+ years and it wasn't until the end of the GWGT system that we saw it really explode.

Not sure if it is the result, but it has been my observation.

But WYSIWYG is still required. No proxies! boooo!

I see it all the time, and I like it that way.

Any excuse to have more creative armies in the game is a good one as far as I'm concerned. Heck, the possibilities with IG alone are endless when you throw in 3rd party bits.

I could be wrong, but I seem to recall that the Adepticon tournament rules allow alternate models and even counts-as if they adhere to WYSIWYG.

Yes, this has been the case for a few years now I believe. A little late to the party, but you're welcome all the same . Bring on the 3rd party model revolution!

At AdeptiCon 2012, my team in the team tournament won a theme award, and my entire force was non-GW models (but converted with GW weapons for wysiwyg).

One that thought that he had, but hadn't.

Sorry.

Shandara linked to the right site though.

(For some reason I now picture the steampunk Squats going to war with Beethoven's Rage Over A Lost Penny playing in the background....)

The Auld Grump, not saying that it's appropriate... but it is what is running through my head....
