Hello I am wondering what to buy to start a new space marine army with the new 6th edition miniatures.
I am thinking of buying the codex and strikeforce and starting from there. Any suggestions welcome.

If you don't own anything yet, I would suggest get the codex. Read through and figure out what you want.
If you really have cash to burn (about 12,000 USD) there is this.
That being said, the Strike Force is actually a pretty good deal for what you get.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

There are also one click armies for ultra marines, Iron Hands, Imperial Fists, Salamanders and maybe one for Crimson Fists. They would be a great start. However, the codex and a strikeforce box is just about perfect

Its a game, have fun. If you arent for some reason...find a new one. |

your plan of strikeforce plus codex is probably your best bet, as it offers a value that isn't present in the "one click collections' and gives you stuff that will be mostly useful, and certainly enough for some friendly games. It's nothing that you'll want to take to a tournament, but i'd probably direct you toward ebay when that time comes.

I would like to point out that despite it's ungodly price, you actually save about 1500 USD on the Ultra Astartes.

Well obviously that is the $1500 you will need to spend on paint and glue for everything

This is the biggest 40k deal I have seen so far. But I wouldn't paint them blue.

If you have the money I think the codex and the Strikeforce are good buys. Sure, you might end up with a unit from the big box that you end up not wanting to use, but you save about $100 (I think) with it. It's also completely playable right out of the box, too, which is very nice. You could easily get a 1000pt force from the box alone (though I would recommend buying a Rhino for the second Tactical squad). A flyer (Storm Talon or Stormraven) also strikes me as a must-have, but you could probably wait on that--it'd be a pretty dick move I think to throw a flyer at a new player who isn't bringing AA/Flyers of their own and I like to think the folks you'll be playing with will cut you a bit of slack on your first games.
I would also *strongly* discourage you from going for one-click chapter-themed bundles--they don't really give any discount. The Strikeforce is much better.
