Wolves of Orboros seem pretty bad on paper although they are rather cheap pointwise and surprisingly accurate but they are pretty pillow-fisted. Am I underrating them?
Tharn Ravagers I really like the look off, they fit to Kromac and are hard-hitting but die like flies which is pretty sad for heavy Infantry. Would you still get them?
Warpborn Skinwalkers look cool and seem to be our number 1 tar-pit. Are they the go-to choice?
And finally the Tharn Bloodtrackers. I´ve got the feeling they are our equivalent of the WGIDS, but faster & not half as beefy.. On the other hand everyone puts them in his list...
What would you guys think I would get the most mileage off if I´d add them to my list?
there is no 'one infantry choice to rule them all' in circle. every choice is useful to someone.
wolves of orboros have a
UA that gives them an extra die of damage once per game. so thats
4d6 on the charge. pillow fisted they aint! also, they're extremely cheap which is a huge bonus for them. they're fantastic jammers with the likes of eMorv.
ravagers are a marmite unit. you either love them or hate them. i love them - but then again, thematically i got into circle for tharn and warpwolves. even with my liking of them, i will say they're situational, and they need support. Now, im all for heavy infantry in the post colossals meta - i find medium based units with lots of hits are just a good idea. In the tharns case, they're fast-with
AD and a first turn run, they're 25" up the board. theyre great for getting in someones face. they hit like trucks, and they have situationally useful abilities in forests. but they're expensive. you need the
UA and a max squad, and that comes to 11pts. and im not sure if they're worth it, as much as i like them! they have low arm, and desperately need support in that department to help stop them getting shot on the way in. morv, kromac, baldur, kaya cassius etc offer them support in different ways, but the question remains as to would that support be better used on other units?
i feel if they had overtake through their whitemane, theyd be amazing shocktroops, but as it is, they're good, but you have to work to get the most out of them.
Skinwalkers are great, but need the
UA, as otherwise their ability to kill stuff is severely reduced. that said, with a good arm-buff, they can stand there and take hits all day for you. they're great at jamming and soaking things up, but have only a decent return on their own killing power - so you'll need other things to pick up the slack there. also, they're not fast. it'll take them a while to engage anything.
bloodtrackers are great, especially wih nuala. cheap, accurate (with prey), fast and they put out a surprising amount of hurt, with weapon master spears and nuala can help double their attacks with quick work. but they die if you sneeze at them. i like them, and always find a use for them (baldur, and pkrueger love them), but bear in mind, a mistake a lot of people make is using them as mainline infantry, when in reality, they're skirmishers that should be held to a flank, and in a supporting role.
I will point out something to you. you're missing out on other options. cylena raefyl and the nyss hunters, and boomhowler and co.will work for circle. one gives you a cracking unit that is fast, accurate, decently powerful and extremely versatuile, whilst the other offers one of the best tarpits in the game. they're mercenaries though, so faction-only spells wont work. regardless, they're worth a look-in. also, you have the likes of our woldstalkers which are an excellent ranged unit.
think about it. we have more than just ravagers, bloodtrackers and wolves!
