I tried watching super bowl last year, I flicked to the channel and one team was in a huddle - it lasted more than 10 seconds so I got bored and switched.
Just watch the game from home. If you buy tickets and your team loses then you'll just be sad and stuck in parking or packed public transit for an hour.

Not really. I can watch the game on TV for free(with cable) with the awesome commercials and all the inherent junk food. I'd actually prefer watching it at home.
If I want to go to a local game(only kind I'd ever consider seeing in person) its not anywhere near that much.
And you still have travel to consider for those "other" sports. How much is the airfare and hotel going to cost for going to those "follow your team" tickets d-usa? with the Super Bowl you'd only need one day of tickets and one flight.
So really, Football is more expensive to watch in stadium than other sports, but saying other sports are cheaper is like saying a Mercedes is cheaper than a Ferrari. Sure, its true. but both are fething expensive and well out of most sane people's price range.
Its almost universally less expensive to watch from home. My comment was directed more towards the folks who run various other sports. ... Sure, if I REALLY REALLY want to see RWC2015 in England, it'll cost me an insane amount of money. However, were I to be in England for the RWC, it would be very much worth my time to see the other touristy things that I want to see in that country.
I'm not sure what tickets go for for an event like the Daytona 500, but do you think there'd be a public outcry if those organizers raised prices by the same percentage?

Probably. But I think they make most of their money on ticket sales, and thus can't afford to piss off their customers.
The Super Bowl, and Football in general IIRC, doesn't make most of its money on stadium seats. Its that juicy 5 figures a second advertizing money that brings in the bucks.

Yeah, I'm fairly sure that the NFL/ and football in general just roll in the dough from the advertising... which is why we see the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, instead of The Fiesta Bowl. Pretty soon we'll have something like The GEICO McDonalds Jiffy Lube Super Bowl 84, or something ridiculous... as everything except the game itself has a corporate name.

I haven't watched a Super bowl game in years. They usually suck.

Quite possibly... At least in regards to viewing professional level sports in person.
